It is the key. To this, the dharmata of all dharmas enters the door of liberation, which is emptiness, signlessness, and the fruit of wishlessness, non-manifestation, detachment from desire, which is abandoning hatred, completely destroying ignorance, becoming without existence, even the essence itself is without self-nature, and being separated from the three of arising, abiding, and ceasing, this is the definitive meaning. And dharmas appearing as they seem to enter into arising and ceasing, coming and going, purification and liberation, aggregates, elements, sense bases, and so forth, appearing in various forms, being touched by consciousness, thought, and speech, and being measurable by the power of reason, all that is taught by superimposing upon them is called provisional meaning. As it is said in the sutra taught by the noble Inexhaustible Intellect: What is a sutra of definitive meaning? What is a sutra of provisional meaning? Those sutras that are taught for the purpose of entering the path are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that are taught for the purpose of entering the fruit are called definitive meaning. Those sutras that teach about self, sentient beings, life, person, individual, power-born, lord of power, agent, experiencer, and sound in various forms, and those that teach about having a lord where there is no lord, are called provisional meaning. Those sutras that teach about emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-manifestation, unborn, unoriginated, non-existent, selfless, without sentient beings, without life, without individual, without a lord, and without even the door of liberation, are called definitive meaning. Therefore, one should rely on the sutras of definitive meaning and not rely on the sutras of provisional meaning. Thus it is said. Furthermore, if divided into finer parts, it is the way of measuring with a system that possesses the four reliances. Son of the venerable Sharadvati, these are the four inexhaustible reliances of the bodhisattvas. What are the four? They are: rely on the meaning, not on the words; rely on wisdom, not on consciousness; rely on the sutras of definitive meaning, not on the sutras of provisional meaning.

Do not rely on the person, but rely on the Dharma nature, do not rely on the individual. So it is said. Among them, the so-called "words and phrases" refer to worldly dharmas, and the so-called "meaning" refers to that which transcends worldly dharmas. The so-called "consciousness" refers to that which approaches and abides in form, feeling, perception, and mental formations. The so-called "wisdom" refers to the complete understanding of the aggregate of consciousness that abides in the four aggregates. The meaning of straightforwardness is explained for the sake of entering the path. The meaning of definiteness is explained for the sake of entering the fruit. The so-called "Dharma nature" refers to immutability and so on. The so-called "individual" refers to abiding in viewing as an individual, there are inconceivable differences, which are explained by the sixth chapter of that Sutra. In short, those that mainly explain the abiding mode of nature are called Sutras of Definite Meaning. In order to enter that nature, all that explain the impure delusion and its distinctions, etc., by straightening the minds of sentient beings with various methods, are called the Dharma of Straightforward Meaning. This is regarded as the mirror for viewing scriptures and the first key to opening them. Also, in order to clarify those natures and in order to realize the intention of the meaning, two kinds of intention and hidden meaning are explained, first is the intention, there is also a slight exaggeration in the saying, in order to temporarily subdue the objects to be tamed, not only for one purpose, but it is necessary and limited, thus explaining the four kinds of intention. Thus, the nature of the scripture is clarified from the chapter. The first aspect is that all the meanings to be explained are not completely exhausted, so there is still room for intention, for the benefit of others, not changing according to the literal meaning, the four ways of understanding, as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: Equality and different meanings, likewise also different times, in the mind of the individual, it should be known that there are four kinds of intention. In order to enter that treatise, the intention of equality and contradiction are also shown together. If you make intention on different meanings, it shows that it is not established. If you make intention on different times, it shows that you will attain Buddhahood effortlessly. If you make intention on the individual, it degrades the superior understanding of him. Among them, making intention on equality is because you have not seen the truth, so in the appearance of those who only see this shore, samsara and nirvana, good and bad, the nature of what to take and what to abandon exists extremely contradictory.
