It is also immeasurable. As it is said in the Commentary on the Smaller Treatise: "The wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating, or the wisdom arising from the application of samadhi, reality, and consequence." Therefore, the essence of wisdom refers to the suchness of vipashyana. In terms of its function: "It cuts off the assembly of afflictions, knows the dharma and the possessor of dharma, from the city of existence, it passes to the absence of sorrow, the six kinds of generosity, etc., also from higher to higher, excellently entering, relying on the Prajnaparamita." Thus, by striving for the meaning of the three wisdoms, some afflictions can be directly destroyed, and some can be destroyed from the root. One can also know without error the reality of all phenomena, which appear as confusion in the profound nature of reality and the possessor of reality. Knowing in this way, one can quickly transcend the difficult-to-overcome city of samsara and reach the state of nirvana, and also enter the five perfections in a superior way. The Garland of Jewels says: "The latter arises dependent on the former, residing in the inferior and the superior, because of the gross and the subtle, they depend on each other in order." Thus, the qualities and fruits of all five reside in the Prajnaparamita of wisdom. The Compendium says: "How many qualities of the five perfections of enlightenment there are, all of them depend on the Prajnaparamita." And, Master Shantideva said: "Afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge, emptiness is the enemy of darkness." Thus, as long as it is not grasped by the Prajnaparamita of wisdom, the five, such as generosity, are like the blind. For example, a painter completes all the work, but if he does not open his eyes, he will not receive a reward. As mentioned earlier: "When wisdom completely grasps, then the eye is obtained, and this name is obtained. For example, the work of painting is completed, but the eyeless one, as long as the eye is not drawn, does not receive a reward." Therefore, first briefly explain the benefits of wisdom, the noble teacher said: "Seeing and not seeing this quality, the root of all is wisdom, thus, in order to accomplish both, one should completely hold wisdom." Thus, first is the place of the path of accumulation.

Furthermore, the samadhi of the miraculous feet must also be practiced based on wisdom. Just as the light of the sun and moon is supreme among the lights of jewels and butter lamps, wisdom is the supreme among the lights that illuminate the knowable. As the commentary on the *Student's Letter* also shows, in the path of application, the main thing among the five faculties and five powers is also wisdom. If one has the protector of wisdom, one will clearly understand the faults such as generosity being harmed by stinginess and faith being obscured by wrong views, thereby exhausting afflictions and being skilled in the means of increasing qualities. As the teacher Hero said: "These merits such as generosity, with the protector of wisdom, become particularly powerful." And "The aspects of the faculties such as faith, wisdom is the master like the mind to other faculties. Possessing its protector, knowing qualities and faults, one becomes skilled in the way of exhausting afflictions." Like this, when a Bodhisattva is in the stage of learning the path, even if he cuts off flesh from his own body to give as charity, he sees it as someone suffering from illness taking medicine from a tree, and since it is not certain that he will attain a good rebirth by relying on generosity, he will not have thoughts of arrogance or discouragement. Because he cannot endure the asceticism of practicing with discipline, he will not be conceited about it and will focus on the benefit of others. By merely relying on patience, he will not be able to overcome afflictions, and he will be discouraged by vast conduct, and he will not be able to deny or endure abandonment and so on. Because he knows the faults and merits of patience, he will not be weary of wrong practice. Because he knows that the basis for initiating diligence is not inverted, and he is skilled in reversing laziness, he will quickly cut off the path. He will not be confused about whether the cause of existence and the limb of enlightenment will become the nature of meditation, and all of the half-target and so on, all depend on the manifestation of the suchness of wisdom. As it is said in *Wisdom, Clear Eye*: "If the eye of wisdom is clear and distinct, even if a Bodhisattva gives his own flesh, like a medicinal tree, he will not discriminate, there is no high or low for him." It should be explained similarly for other things such as discipline. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva who possesses wisdom, even if he becomes a universal monarch, will not be deceived by the qualities of desire.
