Due to the habitual imprints of beginningless ignorance, things appear even though they do not exist; this is merely appearance. The clinging to things that exist in conventional truth, and the happiness that appears, etc., are considered to be purely mind and mental factors. Although such views are countless, there are other views, such as those of the Vaibhashika school of the Hinayana, which hold that gross matter is composed of aggregates of atoms, and those who say that there is no self-awareness of mind and mental factors. But in reality, they do not consider appearance to be knowledge, and they have many similarities, such as arising from their own previous cause. Even though they accept self-awareness like the Mind-Only school, they only accept a mere awareness that has not been distinguished as either existent or nonexistent. As it says in the commentary, "By the wisdom of each individual's own awareness." Now, the view of the Madhyamaka-Prasangika, which has reached the pinnacle of the vehicle of reasoning, is as follows: Thus, appearance itself is conventional truth, and emptiness is ultimate truth, which are merely nominal designations, free from any extremes of elaboration. At the time of appearance, there is no arising, ceasing, going, or coming. Even the conventional truth that is considered to be other-dependent, does not accept that it is an extreme of existence. This is the great innovation of the Prasangika school, and it is the unique characteristic of Nagarjuna and Chandrakirti. Here, by debating and examining all the lower schools, the higher schools will not err. Thus, appearance itself is conventional truth, and emptiness itself is ultimate truth, etc., which are taught by the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking, to teach all phenomena in the manner of the two truths. For those who have the intelligence to see the path as it is, but have not realized the truth, this is merely a combination based on reliance on nominal designations and clinging thoughts. The two truths are also correctly explained as being neither one nor different. If they were one, then just as conventional truth is abandoned, ultimate truth would also be abandoned in the same way. If conventional truth were different, then ultimate truth would also be different in the same way, and just as conventional truth is defiled, ultimate truth would also be defiled. If they were other, then it would not become a subject of dharma, nor would it overcome the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, and the practice of the path would not become meaningful. Therefore, for one and other, since there is the reasoning of self-nature, it will not become a Prasangika. This established tenet of nominal designation can refute the tenets of others, and can

Since this school does not accept any argumentative commitments and primarily argues by refuting the opponent's commitments through contradictory inferences, it is called the Consequentialist (Prasaṅgika). As the venerable Nāgārjuna said, "If I had any commitment, then I would have that fault. Because I have no commitment, I am faultless." And as Āryadeva said, "For whom there is no partiality towards existence, non-existence, or both, for him, neither long duration nor dispute can be expressed." Nowadays, the differences are that they do not accept their own characteristics, intrinsic existence, and self-awareness, considering the clinging to reality as afflictive obscurations; they do not differentiate between the gross and subtle aspects of selflessness; they accept that the truth of cessation is ultimate, and that the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas are pervaded by the realization of the selflessness of phenomena; they consider the consciousness of ordinary beings as mistaken consciousness, and analytical consciousness as valid cognition; they believe that the basis of mental direct perception and conceptual thought is the same, and that there are ordinary beings who directly realize subtle impermanence; they believe that the three times are real, and that merely realizing the sixteen aspects of gross impermanence, etc., one cannot even enter the path of preparation of any of the three vehicles, and there is the difference of casting consequences. Therefore, in this philosophical system, the nature of all phenomena is unborn, and the nature of reality is free from all extremes of elaboration, so from the moment of appearance, it is unborn, unceasing, primordially peaceful, and naturally in nirvāṇa, even the conventional truth that is acknowledged is refuted. Candrakīrti said, "Just as you believe in the reality of other-dependence, I do not accept even the conventional truth." If so, how is the nature of all phenomena as unborn or born established? The Blessed Mother said, "Venerable Subhūti, is what is unborn born, or is what is born born?" Subhūti said, "Venerable Śāriputra, I do not consider what is unborn to be born, nor do I consider what is born to be born." Thus, he refutes the vows of others' commitments. Furthermore, if one thinks that this uninterrupted appearance is established as birth, etc., that is merely a characteristic imputed by the mind, and there is no acceptance of the philosophical tenets of establishment or non-establishment, so there is no negation of mere appearance. As Āryadeva said:
