Just as one rejoices in the merit of having faith in the deceased, all-knowing, and perfect Buddha himself. The eleventh is: The Blessed One is peaceful, the retinue is peaceful; the Blessed One is subdued, the retinue is subdued; I also do not cut off the minds of others, and I also cause others to abide in guarding their vows, like this. Devadatta thought that the Blessed One was old and senile, and had forgotten to impart teachings to the fourfold assembly of disciples. If he entrusted the retinue to me, the Blessed One would be relieved of his fatigue and be at ease. When he made this request, the Blessed One thought that now was not the time to reveal it, and said, "My retinue, even the chief of the Hearers, like a good vase, Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, I do not entrust to them, would I entrust you to you, who are as foolish as a corpse and eat snot?" Like this, he was skilled in stopping him with words. To frighten and generate faith through miraculous powers: When the Blessed One went to Rajagriha (name of an ancient Indian city), King Ajatashatru's elephant named Protector of Wealth, was a dragon elephant, possessing strength, and was violent in nature, often running out of the fence and harming many people and livestock. Devadatta wanted to harm the Blessed One, so he gave the elephant trainer a pearl necklace worth one million gold coins, and told him, "Tomorrow when the Shramana Gautama goes out, go and provoke the elephant." The elephant trainer also informed the other people in the city, telling everyone to be vigilant. When the Blessed One went out with five hundred monks, the elephant Protector of Wealth was provoked. It made a loud noise and rushed towards the Blessed One with all its might. The Blessed One said, "Now look at the wonderful power of the one with the ten powers!" After saying this, he manifested five lions from his fingers, and the elephant was very frightened and ran away as usual. The Blessed One also manifested fire pits on all sides, leaving the elephant nowhere to escape. Seeing that only the direction where the Blessed One was staying was peaceful and happy, it slowly went to the Blessed One's feet and prostrated, and then followed behind. Finally, when it went around the city wall, the elephant could not see the Buddha and was very depressed, stomped on its own trunk and died, and was reborn as one of the Four Great Kings.

It is like being born from ashes. These are also merely to remember the qualities and deeds of the Buddha, and to represent them as an example. Otherwise, the deeds of the Buddha are not presented as something that Bodhisattvas can accomplish. The eleven causes of perfectly upholding the precepts of benefiting sentient beings abide in all the precepts of benefiting sentient beings. For example, in the case of benefiting sentient beings, the master Asanga explains in the "Root Commentary on the Bodhisattva Grounds" how each of the eleven sentient beings can accomplish eleven benefits according to their respective circumstances. Here, stinginess, afflictions, hatred, laziness, and savoring the taste of meditative absorption are the near enemies of the first five perfections, such as generosity, and are the five opposing factors of each. The near enemies of wisdom are knowing as they are the reversed and unreversed views on the benefits of virtue, the causes of virtue, and the fruits of virtue, and after knowing the five obstacles that cut off the accumulation of virtue, abandoning the five opposing factors and the obstacles is the cause of the perfection of the precepts of accumulating virtue. Regarding this, it is to show that six places of examination are spoken of. Where are the six places of examination spoken of? One should examine the prosperity and decline of one's own Dharma. One should benefit others without straying from the path of Dharma. One should examine the delusion of ordinary beings who have fallen for their own benefit. Among these, the six examinations are summarized as follows: A Bodhisattva who is diligent in the precepts of benefiting sentient beings should separately examine the six objects of observation: oneself, others, being deprived of resources, being rich in resources, being deprived of Dharma, and being rich in Dharma, which are the six places. Being deprived of resources means not obtaining robes and alms, etc., or that which has been obtained is interrupted. Being rich in resources should be understood as the opposite of that. Being deprived of Dharma means that the precepts are degenerated, and the words of the ultimate Dharma spoken by the Thus-Gone One have not been heard before and cannot be heard now; that which has not been heard before, like that which has not been thought of before, cannot be thought of now; obstacles to hearing and obstacles to thinking.
