Not being diligent in the Dharma, not respecting and not loving elder monks, not applying improper attention, speaking harsh words, being impatient, especially delighting in work, speech, and bustle, associating with householders, repeatedly looking at women, anger and holding grudges, etc., these afflictions also become obstacles to discipline. Therefore, with completely pure discipline, one should truly take up the qualities of the main practice of the complete limb of Samadhi. It has twelve aspects: dwelling in solitude, dwelling in a heap of sweepings, alms-begging, eating one meal, sitting upright, not accepting food offered later, having three Dharma robes, wearing felt, dwelling as it is, dwelling in a charnel ground, dwelling under a tree, and having no shelter. Among these, dwelling in solitude is a place that accords with one's vows. As it is said in 'Instructions on the Good Path': Even if one sleeps in solitude, dwelling in solitude pleases the Sugatas. Even if one dwells very calmly in a town, one will not easily guard Samadhi there. So it is said. Dwelling in a heap of sweepings is easily obtained because worldly people reproach it, it is contentment and detachment, turning away from desire, and one will not fall away from the Dharma through actions such as associating with householders for the sake of clothing. Alms-begging is possessing the state of asceticism of wandering for alms, therefore one abandons the fault of wrong livelihood and pride, and possesses the quality of enduring contempt. Eating one meal is not eating again and again. If one has eaten and not risen from that seat, one does not eat again even if one takes water for washing the bowl, or having obtained food separately, one does not eat again after eating the main meal, that is the limit of food. So it is said. Sitting upright is not lying down on bedding, but rather sitting with legs crossed and the body upright. As the former says: Because the vow goes before, one abandons the posture of lying down, and having this posture is called sitting upright. So it is said. Not accepting food offered later, as it says: Eating from outside

Has been abandoned. Because vows have been taken, there is no greed and contentment, and it is in accordance with the manner of faith. So it is. The three Dharma robes are so called because they possess the conduct of holding the three robes: the sanghati, the uttarasanga, and the antarvasa. The one who wears felt is the one who uses wool that has not been woven, which is known in the world as felt, and holds the conduct of contentment. The one who dwells as he finds is the one who is not satisfied with the bedding found in any place, does not cling to good cushions, and dwells as he finds. The one who dwells in the charnel ground dwells in any charnel ground without fear in order to generate renunciation and protect against carelessness. The one who dwells under a tree dwells under a tree, abandoning sheltered places, and possesses the thought of impermanence arising from the changes of the four seasons of that time. The one without cover dwells in a place that is not a house, where the light and images of the sun, moon, and stars are not obscured. Having practiced in this way, having taken up genuine qualities, one should not praise oneself or denigrate others, nor should one follow the path of the non-holy. Now, in order to show the permissibility of incidental implications, here, apart from the seventeen defeats and remainders, the enjoyment of what should not be enjoyed is blessed: If it is necessary to eat food at the wrong time, then one should generate intention in a continent where the sound is unpleasant, and likewise, when bathing, if a patient needs leftover clothes, or it is not allowed to wear white clothes, or when one is distressed by the lack of leather, etc., one should think that it is allowed in order to protect life, and contemplate that touching precious things is allowed in order to offer to the Three Jewels, and in order to save sentient beings. For what is not allowed and not forbidden, it should be regarded as compliant. Among them, for the minor precepts other than the four defeats and the thirteen remainders of the sangha, if one cannot accomplish them in any way, then one should generate bodhicitta and bless them. For food at the wrong time, or when it is necessary to eat repeatedly, in general, there are four kinds of discipline: the discipline of nature, the discipline of dharma, the discipline of vows, and the discipline of abandonment. Among them, those whose sound is unpleasant in the north are those who hold the discipline by nature, so in that continent, one should generate intention and enjoy it, and if one bathes at the wrong time, then one should bear the fault of becoming ill.
