Correct it before entering the seat. Then, after blessing it in accordance with the transgressions, if the performer wants to ask the monk appointed to perform the karma whether he is happy, then appoint him to perform the karma with a motion and two karmas, and complete the matters of pleasing him with the motion karma. Then comes the main part: After the motion is stated, the appointed monk distributes Durva grass to all the Sangha. Those present in the assembly cross and tie two blades of auspicious grass, with one end pointing towards themselves and the other towards the area. Both sides press the roots in their respective directions with their feet and hold the tips with their hands. State the intention in front of the monk appointed to perform the karma, squatting and saying: 'Venerable ones, please listen. Today is the fifteenth karma of the Sangha. I, a monk named so-and-so, am also performing the fifteenth karma. I, a monk named so-and-so, with the three instances of what I have seen, heard, and suspected, perform the karma for the Sangha in retreat. Please advise me, venerable ones. Please instruct me, venerable ones. Please accept me, venerable ones. Compassionate venerable ones, for the sake of compassion, please be compassionate to me. If I know and see transgressions, I will confess again according to the Dharma and the Vinaya.' Repeat this three times. Use skillful means. If there are reasons for not being able to perform the karma, such as illness or fatigue, saying it once or twice is also acceptable. Then comes the karma of the one performing the karma himself: If there is an appointed companion, it should be done in front of him; if not, it should be done in front of any monk present in the assembly. Then, gather and count the bundles of grass, and then say: 'Venerable Sangha, please listen. In this way, so many monks who have been in retreat in this place have performed the karma.' Let those present in the assembly understand, and then answer: 'The karma has been performed well.' 'The karma has been performed very well.' Then, for the sake of the karma of possessions, the appointed one himself holds any possession such as a needle in his hand, sits in front of the elders, and says: 'Venerable ones, with such a possession, perform [karma] for the Sangha in retreat...'

Is it permissible to perform the Pravāraṇā? When asked this question, those present answer, "It is good, it is permissible! Very good, it is permissible!" Thus, the Pravāraṇā is performed. Then, the appointed person gathers the gains of the summer retreat and places them in one place. The novices are made to perform the Pravāraṇā as before, and they are made to understand. Then their gains are collected and distributed together with the previous ones. Untimely Pravāraṇā is: due to activities in accordance with the Dharma, or due to circumstances of resolving disputes, if it is necessary to leave during the summer retreat, or if, after vowing to observe the summer retreat, two or more Uposathas are missed, then Pravāraṇā can be performed on any day of the half-month or the end of the month. If it is not possible to stay due to war or other reasons, then after informing each other of the Pravāraṇā by the Sangha, it is permissible to leave; these are special circumstances regarding time. Special circumstances regarding individuals are: if there are no more than four monks, it is not necessary to appoint a Pravāraṇā performer, and the request and the actual Pravāraṇā are performed directly. If there are only three or two, then the Pravāraṇā is blessed. If one is alone, then the root verse is recited three times. Furthermore, if permission is obtained to leave for seven days or so with blessings, and if one goes outside the boundary and encounters Pravāraṇā in another monastery, then it is also permissible to perform Pravāraṇā together with them, and there is no fault. If one arrives suddenly on that day, or if other renunciates who have broken the summer retreat also need to perform Pravāraṇā, it must be done. The day after performing Pravāraṇā in this way, on the sixteenth, in order to avoid excessive attachment to the place, one should abandon noisy talk and improper attention, and either with talk in accordance with the Dharma, or with the silence of the noble ones, with proper attention, one should travel at least within a league. If there are fears on all sides, or if there are faults such as harboring malice, it is said that there is no downfall even if one does not travel. If harm is caused to others, that is not the behavior of a renunciate, therefore, if harm is caused to crops and fruit trees, etc., due to traveling, or if householders are angered, the traveler should not be overly criticized, because the purpose of traveling is to abandon attachment to the place. Therefore, when travelers and others suddenly leave
