So it is. As the teacher Hero (དཔའ་བོ) said: Those who have heard little are like the blind, they do not know how to meditate. Without that, what is there to think about? Therefore, one should strive to listen, for that is the cause. By meditating while thinking, vast wisdom arises. Thus it is said. Therefore, the way in which listening is the cause of the arising of wisdom, and the way of going to the forest after listening. The Protector Maitreya (བྱམས་པ) said: Wisdom is supreme, its basis is listening, therefore listening is supreme. Also, in the Compendium of Trainings it says: One should seek to listen with patience, then one should dwell in the forest, and one should diligently strive in meditative equipoise. Thus it is said. So, how does listening determine? The Dharma to be determined is the precious teaching of the Buddha. As it says in the Treasury: The Teacher's sacred Dharma is twofold, namely scripture and realization. As it says, the teaching has two aspects, scripture and realization. The former is to understand the meaning of the spoken twelve parts of scripture and so on, and the latter is to apply it to one's own mindstream after understanding it, and to directly realize that realization in the mindstream. If one is to realize the teaching of realization without error, it depends on understanding the teaching of scripture properly. Although this is the case, those of small intelligence need not be discouraged by this. If one does not strive to listen by measuring one's own intelligence, there will be confusion between Dharma and person. Therefore, one should become accustomed to thoroughly listening and thinking at the very place where one is to practice, and learn to increase the power of one's intelligence in the end. Why? Because even if the scope of the place to be practiced is small, if one thoroughly listens and thinks about it oneself, one can experience its meaning without confusion. In this way, if one goes on this path, the wisdom arising from meditation can be established by valid cognition. Therefore, as a sign that meditation is not mistaken, one needs to increase the wisdom of individual self-awareness as much as one meditates, because the nature of wisdom that focuses on suchness and the extent of suchness is the wisdom of higher vision. Moreover, the division of wisdom is twofold, namely the realization of conventional truth and the realization of ultimate truth. The first is, in the Ornament of the Sutras, it says: If one does not strive in the five fields of knowledge, even the supreme noble ones will not become all-knowing, therefore, in order to subdue others

Also to be taken, one's own self is to be known as all, therefore one should strive diligently in that. As such, in order to subdue those who do not believe in the teachings, one seeks the reasons of grammar and logic; in order to take in those who have faith, one seeks crafts and medicine; in order to know everything for oneself, one seeks inner knowledge, which is the specific need of this occasion. However, if all of that is sought with the intention of attaining Buddhahood, then there is no distinction. Here, in order to show how to measure the suchness of selflessness from the perspective of the general meaning, and how to measure it from the perspective of direct perception, therefore, the key of wisdom that measures is established, And in order to establish the treasure of the sacred Dharma to be measured, the establishment of the two, direct and indirect meanings, is: With the wisdom that measures, measure the Dharma to be measured, measure the two, direct and indirect meanings, and the four hidden meanings. The nature of all dharmas is suchness, abiding in the three liberations is the definitive meaning. Because the dharmas that appear to be the path, measure with reason and establish the path of the direct meaning. With these two, which of the direct and indirect meanings to rely on or not to rely on, knowing that is the key to viewing the scriptures. In that, the nature of all dharmas, the door of liberation, emptiness, and the absence of characteristics, and entering the fruit of no aspiration, and not manifesting, being free from attachment, that is, abandoning hatred, well subduing ignorance, becoming without existence, and also without nature in essence, being free from the three, birth, cessation, and abiding, is the definitive meaning. The dharmas that appear to be the path, entering according to appearance, birth and cessation, and going and coming, and purity and liberation, and aggregates, and elements, and sources, and so on, appear in various forms, and are reached by mind, thought, and speech, and can be measured by the power of reason, all that is established and proclaimed is called the direct meaning. In the Sutra proclaimed by the noble inexhaustible intelligence it says: What is the Sutra of definitive meaning? What is the Sutra of direct meaning? Those Sutras that are proclaimed for the purpose of entering the path are called direct meaning. Those Sutras that are proclaimed for the purpose of entering the fruit are called definitive meaning. Those Sutras that speak of self and, sentient beings and, life and, person and, individual and, power and
