Because it is shown by example, it is not necessary to rely solely on the one basis among sentient beings of the three realms that possesses the vows of individual liberation. Gods, nagas, yakshas, and others who can understand signs, comprehend meaning, and generate the basis for the arising of the Bodhisattva vows, who can vow to abandon any wrongdoing, and who possess the desire to receive them, for all bases that have arisen and will arise, if there is no cause for abandonment, even if they change lives, they will not abandon the vows, and because they possess compassion that awakens the lineage, they are also called sons or daughters of the lineage. From the point of view of meaning, if they possess the distinction between emptiness and compassion, and an impartial intention towards the Buddha and sentient beings, even if they enjoy the five desirable qualities, they are still keepers of pure conduct, and therefore, as previously shown, it is praised that the reins of that chariot can also be placed on the head of the Tathagata. In the *Compendium*, it says: If a Bodhisattva enjoys the five desirable qualities, takes refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and thinks of achieving Buddhahood, contemplating omniscience, then the wise should know that they abide in the perfection of morality. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas enjoy the five desirable qualities together with sixty-eight thousand women who possess virtues. In accordance with this, when asked by the powerful one, it was also said that lay Bodhisattvas can also enjoy them. If it were not so, then even the noble ones who have realized the two selflessnesses would not be praised because they lack great compassion. Those who shrink from the difficult deeds aimed at benefiting others and abandon the burden of Bodhicitta are more fallen than those who have committed the root downfall of individual liberation. It says in that very text: If one practices the ten virtuous actions for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, but only wishes to achieve self-liberation as an Arhat, then at that time, faults occur in morality, and morality is destroyed. Impure morality and lack of skill are likewise a downfall of conduct. Bodhicitta is even heavier than a root downfall. In this regard, if Acharya Shantarakshita and Abhayakaragupta, based on the precepts of mixing the rituals of the two traditions, were to separately establish the tenets of Madhyamaka and Chittamatra, it would become incorrect. The basis of birth is divided into two: lay and ordained.

What is the distinction between being able to be reborn in terms of whether or not there is sin? Having the mind of aspiration and engagement on top of any of the seven types of individual liberation vows is called the bodhisattva's discipline of morality, which is a fully ordained bodhisattva. The system of the Ornament for Clear Realization, compiled by Maitreya and explained by the brothers Asanga, will be explained. The very extensive collections of scriptures just mentioned, such as the Adornment of the Tree Sutra, the Essence of Space, the Jewel Heap, the Fortunate Aeon, and the Advice to the King, were compiled by Manjushri and explained by Nagarjuna. Even taking the vow not to kill for one day, one generates the mind of enlightenment. However, because it is not an individual liberation vow, etc., the distinction between the Madhyamaka and Mind-Only schools is well established. As it is said in the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra: "The discipline of vows is the abode of the bodhisattva's mind. The discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas is the perfection of the Buddha's dharma. The discipline of benefiting sentient beings is the maturation of sentient beings." Therefore, although the word discipline refers to vows, it is not entirely equivalent to pure conduct, because the vows that are granted and prescribed for the bodhisattva himself are also discipline. Similarly, in the Madhyamaka system, although the mind of enlightenment is taken by those who hold the individual liberation vows, there is no difference in the ritual for obtaining the bodhisattva vows. In the Mind-Only system, individual liberation is not necessary for taking the mind of aspiration, but the basis for taking the engaging vows is said to be any of the seven types of individual liberation vows. When someone who has that basis studies the bodhisattva's teachings and is able to believe and practice, first one asks about obstacles, and then one states the trainings. The way it arises is also from a joyful mind, so by making offerings and so on, one makes the mind joyful, and then one takes the two, aspiration and engagement, through their respective rituals. Now, if both of these belong to the Great Vehicle teachings, how can there be doctrinal contradictions? Because the bodhisattva's discipline is explained as being of two types, the common

The vows of individual liberation are any of the vows of a lay person or individual liberation, and are not completely prohibited. The uncommon is the pure intention vows of a Bodhisattva, so they cannot enter into the vows with form, or even if they can, it is because of the need to greatly benefit others, such as the Bodhisattvas Good Protector and Immaculate Fame, who appeared as householders with form, and as it is said, are related to their Vinaya Pitaka. Thus, holding the correct view of Madhyamaka, is the tradition established by the great scholar Nagarjuna and the prince Shantideva. Furthermore, the root of the teachings is the sacred Vinaya, and for beginners or those who do not have the capacity, in order to mainly subdue their own minds through the vows with form, the brothers Asanga followed the view of the Sutra Ornament, which says that "the ordained Bodhisattva is the most excellent," and in this way, they explained the way of generating the mind of enlightenment according to the view of the Mind-Only school, which is acceptable in any way. As it is said in the Tenth Wheel of the Earth Store Sutra: "The Bodhisattva's precepts are pure in two ways, namely, the common and the uncommon. The common is the lay vows, or the fully ordained individual liberation vows of a renunciate. The uncommon is to protect the precepts with an equal mind towards all sentient beings, a harmless mind, and a mind without hatred, and to protect without regard to the fruits of the world." If the meaning of these words is understood, then the sectarian biased thoughts that only follow the treatises will be pacified. Now, in order to explain in connection with the practices of aspiration and engagement of the vast conduct school, and in order to summarize the meaning of the practices: May I be able to completely give my own happiness to others, may I be able to endure the suffering of others, may I be able to practice the wonderful activity of giving and taking, and may I aspire to never be separated until enlightenment. Therefore, not transgressing the nature of aspiration and engagement is to guard the mind. Abandoning what is incompatible with it, and immediately remedying even if a downfall occurs, is purification. Having done so, in all aspects
