And, the master Hero (Slob-dpon Dpaa-bos) said: Bees, full and flying, sing, tree branches dance, birds emit beautiful sounds, cool breezes gently blow. Mountain streams murmur, beautiful deer run and circle, flowers seem to laugh, sandalwood and other fragrances abound. Such are the virtues of a monastery, benefiting oneself and others, without expecting any return, why should a yogi with many friends be discouraged? Worldly people are not like that. Therefore, urging people to go to such forests: Those who desire meditation, please go there! In the midst of the opulence of clouds, the lightning of life's play flickers and trembles, change and suffering are like gathered thieves. The flood that creates destruction is noisy, busy with accumulating, guarding, and multiplying desires, exhausting life with pride, miserliness, and stinginess, wandering in the endless ocean of bad destinies. Thus it is said, because no one can achieve meditation in the midst of worldly perfection, our teacher practiced the conduct of enlightenment for countless eons, also because he abandoned the rule of a wheel-turning king and went to a solitary place. Thus, although worldly wealth arises from dependence on a household, its nature can disappear in an instant, like a cloud that suddenly appears in the sky. Even if it exists for a short time, its essence is suffering, as it is said in the Six Discourses on Meditation: The labor of a household is suffering, and it will never become happy. When a snake sees another dwelling, entering it increases happiness. Thus it is said. For example, a snake is troubled by having many young in its nest and cannot bear it, when it enters another cave, it obtains happiness. Similarly, household life is tiring due to farming, troubled by taxes and military service, shortened by the karmic consequences of actions such as killing, trapped in the prison of the three kinds of suffering. Most actions are contrary to cause and effect, therefore it is the source of destruction, like a harmful river. Accumulating makes one busy, guarding makes one tired, and multiplying is endless, these three

Regarding how desire causes distress, the "Letter to a Friend" states: 'The suffering of accumulating, guarding, and seeking, know that wealth is an endless pile of rubble.' And so on. That is to say, if one becomes slightly wealthy, one becomes arrogant and also hates the jealousy of others. Fearing that it will decrease from that, one becomes stingy, and the root of miserliness greatly increases, so one recklessly indulges in the faults of desire, and thus one is led to endless evil destinies. In the letter to the lama, it says: 'With a mind ruined by craving for desire, one destroys oneself and also destroys others. Even if the gods rained down desires like rain, those with desire would not be satisfied.' And so on. Therefore, if one abandons the source of all desires—the household—then that suffering will disappear, so one should be careful to prevent the concept of household from appearing even in the monastery, and striving to do little is extremely important in this degenerate age. Wealth is shown to be the cause of suffering: 'Valuable things covered by clouds of deceit and trickery, wealth is the cause of suffering as much as it is acquired. Abandon diminished utensils due to harm from enemies and thieves. Obtaining contentment goes to the peak of wealth.' In this regard, worldly enjoyment is obtained through trade and so on, relying on many deceitful and tricky actions, so the reins slip from one's hands. Moreover, deceit is having a deceitful mind, and trickery is having the intention to deceive others; the connection between these two is like experiencing the thought of a dark cloud gathering in summer. Constantly tormented by desire, greed is abundant. One becomes accustomed to stealing stealthily. Lying, focusing on the thought of oneself alone being victorious, therefore the bodhicitta greatly deteriorates. Plundering, harming other lives, slaves and animals, etc., suffering in distant places and dangerous paths, etc. In short, almost all ten non-virtuous actions are experienced imperceptibly, so the ripening result is extremely dark. Even if one becomes wealthy, one is not content. Enemies and thieves are numerous. Fearing the decrease of that enjoyment itself, hoping for increase, fighting and quarreling with others, etc., the more wealthy one becomes, the more suffering becomes heavier and more numerous. As mentioned earlier: 'For the sake of worldly things, there will be strife; without worldly things, there is no strife. Completely abandoning worldly things'
