Or, having obtained separately, or accumulated, or extremely accumulated, or relied upon, I do not say that desires will be satisfied. Those who are satisfied are satisfied by the wisdom of the noble ones. Furthermore, it is also mentioned in the teachings of the renowned Vimalakirti: This body arises from various causes and conditions, and has no autonomy. This body is like the earth, without action. This body is like water, without autonomy. This body is like nothingness, without life. This body is like wind, without personality. This body is like space, without inherent nature. This body is the abode of the great elements, and is not real. This body is like grass, wood, walls, mounds, and cataracts, it is inanimate. This body arises endowed with the wheel of wind, without sensation. This body is an accumulation of pus and impurities, it is accumulating. This body is constantly anointed, rubbed, and has the nature of decay and dispersion, it is hollow. This body is tormented by four hundred and four diseases. This body is constantly oppressed by old age, like an old well. This body ultimately leads to death, and is ultimately impermanent. This body is completely seized by the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, like an executioner, virulent poison, and an empty city. You should generate disgust and weariness towards such a body, and generate faith in the body of the Tathagata. Thus, the nature of the body is extremely fluctuating and unstable, etc. By contemplating these reasons, one must exert effort. These are well explained in the great collections of scriptures and are profound in meaning. The noble Nagarjuna also said: The mindfulness of contemplating the body by the powerful one, the Sugata has shown as the path to enter the one and only way. And it is said: If suddenly a fire breaks out on your head or clothes, even abandoning what needs to be done in order to prevent that, one should strive to ensure that there is no rebirth, there is nothing more important than this. This is the ultimate in swift words urging diligence. Similarly, the teacher Chandrapa wrote in a letter to his student: The human body is extremely difficult to obtain, and once obtained, one should persevere in its meaning.

One should practice in this way. Just as the flame of an oil lamp is moved by a strong wind, there is no certainty that life will remain even for an instant. Thus, it has been shown that the opponent of diligence, the antidote to laziness, is solely the remembrance of impermanence, which is the most excellent of instructions. Therefore, one must generate diligence that is not mixed with laziness. The diligence that clears away the impurities of laziness is not merely showing a slow-flowing aspect. Until one reaches the ocean of omniscience, one should not abandon the conduct of being swift and vigorous. Among them, taking the example of rivers that can settle turbid impurities, the opposite of diligence is only laziness. Therefore, the path of sometimes being diligent and sometimes not being diligent is far from enlightenment and accompanied by sorrow. Therefore, one should know the faults of this. As it is said in the Sutra on Mindfulness: The root of all afflictions is laziness, which one possesses. Whoever has one laziness, that person has no Dharma at all. Thus. Although diligence is established as one category, in reality it is the helper of all six perfections. Therefore, if there is no diligence, then the others also decline. As it is said in the Sutra of Questions by Ocean of Wisdom: For the lazy, enlightenment is very far and extremely far. For the lazy, there is no generosity up to no wisdom. For the lazy, there is no benefit for others. Thus. If there is no diligence, then the reason for maturing black karma is also stated in the Mother Sutra: With laziness, one cannot even accomplish one's own benefit, let alone benefit others. With the ripening result of laziness, one will be reborn in the hells of sentient beings, as well as the birth place of animals, and the world of Yama. Thus. Furthermore, just as without the wind that causes movement, the meaning of shaking and swiftness cannot be accomplished, the nature of enlightenment depends on the great ground of virtue, the accumulation of merit and wisdom. If there is no diligence, then these do not arise. Therefore, it is said: Thus, diligence abides in enlightenment, just as without wind there is no shaking, without merit, diligence does not arise. Thus. Therefore, after contemplating the benefits of diligence and the faults of laziness, I have entered the conduct of a Bodhisattva and promised to practice, and I will abandon each and every part of the faults.
