It will also generate great suffering, as it is said: If one holds a mind with the thorn of hatred, the mind will not experience the feeling of peace. Therefore, hatred is very easy to manifest, its similar cause is anger, and its antidote is patience. Therefore, the Blessed One said: The so-called anger destroys and renders useless even the merits accumulated in a thousand kalpas, burning oneself first and then others. Therefore, hatred is called anger. As the "Moon Lamp Sutra" says, even vast roots of virtue cannot protect: Whoever harbors a mind of harming others, neither discipline nor learning can protect him, neither meditation nor seclusion can protect him, neither generosity nor offerings to the Buddha can protect him. Therefore, a Bodhisattva does not generate hatred towards the harmer, but examines his own direct and indirect faults, and regards the discrimination of hatred as an enemy. Why? Because the sin of anger follows oneself and becomes an enemy in every way, while the harmer is accidental and has no connection with oneself in any way. As it is said in the "Entering the Way of the Bodhisattva": Others are displeased with me, if they do not devour me in this life or the next, I therefore do not like them. The third aspect is that if one lacks the patience of not being afraid of the profound nature of Dharma, one will be far from the meaning of the transcendent. Like this, patience related to the worldly path must rely on sentient beings to take objects, rely on the ripening fruit, and rely on the path of merit to endure, then its nature is contrary to the ultimate truth, accompanied by attachment, accompanied by fabrication, and has discrimination, therefore it is also contrary to the Prajnaparamita. Like this, completely abandoning fabrication and discrimination is the reason for transcendent patience, as it is said in the "Earth Store Ten Wheel Sutra": Good son, the patience of a Bodhisattva is of two kinds, namely worldly and transcendent. Worldly patience is towards all sentient beings...
