I pray and make offerings. The hermit said again: "Because you cut off my limbs, when I become a Buddha, may your three poisons be cut off by the sword of my wisdom." By the fruits of the two accumulations, such as these, he became enlightened at the Bodhi tree and became a great leader who liberates sentient beings. To repay harm with benefit is to worship harm as if it were the sacred Dharma. The Bodhisattvacharyavatara says: Therefore, for the mind of extreme hatred, relying on it, patience arises, that (mind of hatred) is the cause of patience, therefore it should be worshiped like the sacred Dharma. In particular, if one's own good wishes have already been made, then the evil deeds of others, etc., as a cause of suffering, can also cause aversion to the place of samsara and generate great compassion, so one should also rely on the asceticism of patience. Teacher Shantideva said: Suffering also has other merits, it eliminates arrogance with aversion, compassion arises for those in samsara, fearing evil and rejoicing in virtue. Therefore, the Bodhisattva should prevent the conflicting aspects of the three patiences—hatred, as well as the laziness of thinking that one cannot practice, and the lack of faith in the path of patience and the arising of a mind of abandonment, etc., and in particular, one should be extremely afraid of the faults of anger. The Jataka says: The fire of anger makes the face haggard, even if decorated with ornaments, it will not appear beautiful. Even if you sleep on a beautiful bed, the sting of anger will cause pain in your heart. You will forget the things that benefit you, and you will be tormented by anger and fall into evil paths. You will decline from fame and accomplishment. The Bodhisattvacharyavatara says: All the virtues accumulated in thousands of kalpas, such as giving and offering to the Sugatas, are destroyed by one anger. Therefore, one should not be angry with those beings who are possessed by demons, even though they harm those who benefit themselves. The Four Hundred Verses says: A doctor does not get angry with a person possessed by a ghost, similarly, the Buddha sees afflictions, not the person associated with afflictions. As it is said, not being angry with a person, that (non-angry) continuum will be separated from afflictions.

Born from... , being weary of the wrongdoings of sentient beings and not abandoning benefiting others, and protecting from the enemy of anger that destroys all roots of virtue, and the pleasing adornment of enduring even small harms, and the power of asceticism that burns the multitude of afflictions, and the stream of water that extinguishes the great fire of malice, and the armor that is not pierced by the arrows of the wrongdoings of an untamed mind, and possessing the color of gold, etc., accomplishing a beautiful form that attracts the eyes and minds of beings, and constantly not losing the joy of the mind, thus being happy in this life as well, and preventing evil destinies in the future, and giving higher realms and definite goodness, thus gladly accepting the benefits of patience, such as all happiness. In the Compendium of Perfections, it is said: "For those who have the mind of abandoning the benefit of others, patience is the most excellent in accordance with the Dharma." The perfect goodness of the world is completely protected from the faults of anger by patience. It is the most excellent ornament of the powerful, and the source of strength for those who hold the practice of asceticism. For anger, like a fire in the wilderness, patience is like a stream of water. Patience eliminates the nine harms of this life and the next. For the armor of patience of a superior person, the arrows of harsh words of an untamed person cannot penetrate. Therefore, those flowers of praise will become beautiful, and the garland of fame will become pleasing. It is also said: "The accomplishment of form, adorned with virtues and adorned with excellent marks, is also the act of patience." And so on. Furthermore, in the Bodhisattva Grounds, it is said: A Bodhisattva initially contemplates the benefits of patience. Because a person who has patience will not have many enemies in the future, will not have many separations, will become happy and have peace of mind, will die without regret, and after the body is destroyed, will be reborn among the gods in the heavens of the good realms. Thinking in this way, contemplating these benefits, one will also be patient oneself, and will also cause others to practice patience properly, and will also proclaim the praise of patience, and upon seeing a person who has patience, one will be delighted and always rejoice. Thus it is. In terms of ultimate truth, the nature of anger is without characteristics.
