The entirety of the Bodhisattva's vows are collected through four purifications and augmentations. That is, for beginners, it is protection; for those who practice with faith, it is purification; abandoning by residing in the seven impure grounds; and augmenting by residing in the three pure grounds, as extensively explained in the Compendium of Trainings. Furthermore, to abandon the opposing factors, the Discrimination of the Middle and Extremes states: "Opposing factors and allies, all aspects are fully known, to abandon them, diligence arises in four aspects." Such a Bodhisattva, possessed of mindfulness and awareness, even the lifting and placing of steps, and the extending and contracting of limbs, are included in the nature of the six perfections, thus easily completing the two accumulations. Furthermore, the discipline of benefiting sentient beings is: being skilled in means, directly or indirectly, striving to benefit all sentient beings; generosity, kind speech, beneficial action, acting in accordance with the meaning, and the discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas are vast gateways. Among these, the method of gathering disciples based on the four objects of gathering has already been explained. The discipline of accumulating virtuous dharmas is a place of learning related to all three disciplines, therefore, as a companion to the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, it is practiced with a vast gateway of possessing equal objects. The activity of the discipline of benefiting sentient beings is to benefit others and ripen their continuums, as stated in the Bodhisattva Grounds: "Being a companion to those who are associated with meaningful activities; removing the suffering of suffering sentient beings; showing wisdom to those who do not know the means; repaying kindness and perceiving it, and in turn repaying benefits; protecting those who are afraid; eliminating the sorrow of those who are suffering; bestowing resources to those who have no resources; skillfully gathering the wheel of Dharma; acting in accordance with the minds of others; making them happy with upright qualities; skillfully subduing; making them fearful and trusting with miracles." The first is like when the householder Anathapindika built the Jeta Grove, Shariputra made the help; the second is like the being called "Strong Yellow Aquatic Fish," born with eighteen heads.

For example, five hundred fish were caught and abandoned in a dry place, showing extreme suffering, (the Buddha) saved their lives and blessed them to remember their past lives. The third example is that a barber, belonging to the attendant caste, did not know the method of ordination because of his low birth, and with the grace of Shakya Good Protector, Shariputra ordained him. The fourth example is that a great plague broke out in the holy city (Sanskrit: Āryapura), (the Buddha) showed that the venerable Katyayana and his five hundred attendants were praised and received happiness, and King Brightness offered the throne and the merits of wish-fulfillment to repay his kindness. The fifth example is that in Shravasti, five hundred merchants went to a foreign land and were troubled by the Umbrella Yaksha, they were frightened and prayed for protection to those who were not protectors, and at the urging of a Buddhist layperson, they sought refuge in the Buddha, and the Tathagata extended his elephant-trunk-like arm to protect them. The sixth example is that King Ajatashatru was betrayed by the small border countries, the Naga Sogmāme was angry and dropped hail, and the country and himself suffered a severe plague, and at the time of extreme suffering, the Bhagavat did not hold grudges, and went from Shravasti to Magadha to save them from suffering. The seventh example is that a very poor Brahmin went to plow the fields in the morning without eating, and the World Honored One appeared, and it happened that someone came to bring him food. The Brahmin developed faith and offered the food to the Buddha, and the Buddha poured it into the well, and the well was filled. After that, the teacher and the Sangha of monks enjoyed it together, and the well did not decrease, but became even more full, and (the Buddha) preached the Dharma of faith to him, and he saw the truth. Later, all the Brahmin's fields were transformed into golden plows, ears of rice, and barley. When he offered one-sixth to King Brightness, the king's share became barley, while the Brahmin's share became gold, and his wealth was as abundant as utensils. The eighth example is that Light Protector (Sanskrit: Yaśa) blessed by telling the story of Nyagrodha's birth, (Light Protector) asked the six heretical teachers about the path of Brahman conduct, but learned that none of them were the right path. He saw the World Honored One residing in the Bamboo Grove Monastery in Rajagriha, and prostrated at his feet,
