Abiding in non-separation. Apply this similarly to all. If purified at midnight, also in the latter half of the night. If a fall occurs in the latter half of the night, also at dusk. If a fall occurs at dusk, also at midnight. If a fall occurs at midnight, also at dawn, and so on. Near one, seeing it thus, the training of the Bodhisattvas who have rightly entered the Great Vehicle is rectifiable. As it is said, if, as the day and night are each divided into three parts, at the end of each of the six parts, one arrives with an antidote, then that discipline will not be broken. However, if one thinks that one cannot achieve Buddhahood for the sake of others and generates a mind of abandonment, then regardless of the time, it is immediately abandoned. Therefore, for others, if one arrives with regret within the time periods, it is only a cause for decline. The measure of its confession is: for example, if a fall occurs at any point in the beginning, middle, or end of the first sixth of the morning, then in the second sixth of the immediately following time period, one can recover by confessing with intense regret. If one does not exceed this measure of confession, then even if root falls occur repeatedly, they can be rectified. If one exceeds the measure of confession, it is called a transgression, and it cannot be recovered by rectification. With the vow of confession as a preliminary, one must take it again as in the ritual. Although it is so, if one thinks that decline is easy and rebirth is also easy, and one takes it lightly, then the ritual of the four powers will decline, and it will only be a waste of the Dharma. The way to confess by rectification is also: those with lesser faculties, because their attachment to things is strong, should gather ten or five holders of the Great Vehicle vows, who are the support of shame and embarrassment, and confess without concealing their offenses to one or more of them, and thus rise from the fall. Those with middling faculties, who are accustomed to deity yoga and have firm faith, should confess to the deity who is the general collection of wisdom mantras, the noble Akashagarbha, as it is said in their own sutra, like a fortress of falls that cuts off the roots of virtue, like a mirror of those who practice vows, like the clothes of those who know shame and embarrassment. At the moment of falling, without interruption between day and night, only the arising of offenses is kept in mind, and with regret, at dawn.

In the morning, bathe and maintain cleanliness, burn incense. Invoke the noble Akashagarbha, Dawn arises, great compassionate one. Possessing great kalpas, you rise in Jambudvipa. As soon as you rise, please gladden me with compassion. Offer these words of mine to the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha, the great compassionate one. May it appear in my dreams, and I will confess downfalls through that method. May you enable me to attain skillful means and wisdom in the noble Mahayana, pray intensely like this, and offer the seven-limbed prayer. Due to the differences in each individual's capacity, it shows the method of liberating from downfalls through direct or symbolic means. If no signs are seen, then as before, maintain cleanliness and bathe at dawn, etc. Facing east, with the right knee on the ground, contemplate the noble Akashagarbha. With great devotion, offer the seven-limbed prayer, and with great diligence. Dawn, great compassion, great goodness, as soon as you rise in Jambudvipa, please cover me with compassion. Again, with my words, quickly urge Akashagarbha, who possesses great compassion, wishing to quickly confess downfalls by any means. I pray that you show in my dreams the method by which I may attain the skillful means and wisdom of the noble Mahayana. Having said this and lying down to sleep, when dawn arises, the noble Akashagarbha will show a form in the dream that corresponds to one's own capacity, thereby causing the downfalls to be confessed. If they are those who are accustomed to the yoga of deities, then focusing on that very yidam, recite the uncommon seven-limbed prayer, and rise from downfalls through confession. In general, the downfalls of those with excellent faculties are such that, from the beginning, they appear as the aspect of conceptual imputation that is without inherent existence, like drawing lines on water or carving furrows in the wind. It does not leave imprints or causal images of downfalls, but for those who alternately engage in shamatha and vipashyana, the Sutra of Great Liberation Expanding in All Directions states: If one wishes to purify misdeeds, sit upright and look correctly. Look correctly at reality. Having seen reality, one is completely liberated. This is called the supreme purification of misdeeds.
