In the place of Na Dga' Ra Ba, he dwelt together with a great community of monks consisting of one hundred and thirteen monks. At that time, the Blessed One spoke to the monks: Monks, auspiciousness is diminishing, life is being cut off, the aggregates of life are being abandoned, and the teacher's doctrine will surely perish, so why do you not practice with diligence and steadfast austerity? The human body is extremely difficult to obtain, and having obtained it, one has also obtained ordination in the Victorious One's doctrine that is obtained by it, but is deceived by things that are not in accordance with the meaning of liberation, and becomes miserable! Monks, to be separated from life and to die is easy, but to have precepts broken and destroyed is not so. Why is that? To be separated from life and to die will bring about the end of life in this very life, but to have precepts broken and destroyed will, for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, be separated from lineage, abandon happiness, and experience great downfall. Therefore, the teacher greatly praised the precepts, saying: One who has precepts meets with the Buddha. One who has precepts is the best of all ornaments. One who has precepts is fragrance and anointment. One who has precepts is the place of all joy. Precepts are the cool water that dispels suffering. One who has precepts is praised by all the world. By pure precepts, one attains the supreme state. Just as a fierce serpent, a great black dragon, does no harm to one who has precepts, what need is there to mention others? A monk who has precepts has light. One who has precepts becomes famous and obtains happiness. Just as one without eyes cannot see forms, so too, without precepts, one cannot see the Dharma. Just as one without feet cannot enter the path, so too, without precepts, one cannot be liberated. Just as a good vase is a container for jewels, so too, precepts are the basis for generating all dharmas. Just as a broken vase cannot be used as a container for jewels, so too, broken precepts destroy all dharmas. One who initially has no precepts, does he later think to attain nirvana? Whatever has a nose or no nose, etc., for them, mirrors are not needed. Even if the ear has not heard and the eye has not seen, that person who protects the doctrine will go to the heavens. Learned, possessing learning, protecting learning...

Oh, Ris! Where can a woman be approached? Where is the king's palace worth liking? Where does a bubble have essence? Women are not worth approaching, the throne is not worth liking, bubbles have no essence, and enjoyment is not eternal. Enjoyment is like a flowing river. What kind of boat, what kind of home. What kind of flower, what kind of body. Life is like a bubble in the water. After the Blessed One spoke thus, the close retinue and other monks rejoiced and praised the words spoken by the Blessed One. All Buddhas who have passed away in the three times, may they dedicate their merit through any dedication, etc. After that, general confession and questioning about the prohibition of offenses are done. The Uposatha of a novice monk is: after prostrating three times to a virtuous monk, request attention to the Uposatha. After saying this, sit in front of each monk, less than three at a time. Venerable ones, please listen. Today's Sangha's Uposatha is the fourteenth or fifteenth. I am a novice monk named so-and-so, and today is also the fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha. I am a novice monk named so-and-so, may all my obstructing dharmas be completely purified. I pray that the venerable ones, etc., accept my complete purification. After saying this three times, act skillfully. After accepting complete purification in this way, separate the novice monks from a place where they cannot be heard. The reciter of the sutra says: In order to bless with the prayer of common offenses, please the Sangha follow the code of conduct and pay attention to the matter of prayer. After adjusting the intention in this way, monks of the Sangha, please listen. Today's Sangha's Uposatha is the fourteenth or fifteenth. If we, the entire Sangha, have committed offenses, then in front of whom do we restore the offenses according to the Dharma? There are no other monks here besides us. In front of the monks, restore those offenses according to the Dharma. This is the prayer. Then there is the agreement of the place: from the blessing of common offenses, everything else is definitely needed, please pay attention to the agreement of the place of prayer and two actions. Monks of the Sangha, please listen. Are all places completed?
