Indeed, it is possible to remedy. Regarding the methods of remedy, there are two: remedy through displeasing coercion and remedy through pleasing confession. The first method includes: intimidation, cursing, expulsion, and rejection, these four. Adding prohibition of restoration and suspension, there are six in total. Expelling the unseen from the dwelling, not remedying, those holding wrong views, those who quarrel, those who facilitate the cause of quarrels, those who are intimate with and reside with nuns, those who have not been pacified by thoroughly refuting the Dharma, these seven expulsions are combined into one, mixed with the previous six, called the seven coercions, meaning to place in a lower position and degrade. This requires no objection from a divided Sangha, the executor possessing the conditions, not being in the middle of summer, remembering what was said, informing those who should be informed, preventing from evil deeds and their causes, thereby allowing the transgression to enter the remedy process. Thus, if one relies on coercion to confess faults, then the Sangha possessing the conditions should accept the naturally existing forgiveness according to the Dharma, and afterwards, they should generate joy in him. Remedy through pleasing confession refers to the state of mind that wants to hide the committed transgression, which is the mind of concealment, and the verbal action generated by that motivation is the transgression of concealment, which is also included among the four causes of falling into hell, as stated in the Maitreya Lion's Roar Sutra: These four go like an arrow shot into hell, being jealous of others' gains, criticizing others' faults with discipline after hearing the Vinaya and the Sutras of the Bhumi, violating the teachings and precepts but concealing faults due to arrogance, knowingly enjoying offerings given with faith. Therefore, a Bhikshu who knows the difference between transgressions and non-transgressions and has mindfulness, if he conceals overnight from the Sanghavasesa, or associates with any of the four Parajikas, then that transgression cannot be remedied in this life, because the continuum has become incurable. Although such a person is suitable to be expelled from the Sangha, if he is a holder of the scriptures, then he has no right to enjoy with the Sangha, but he can follow in terms of residence and enjoying offerings, etc.

If such requests and forgiveness are accepted, then from that time onwards, when the value of the gains of the abiding Dharma is complete, it is said that a defeat occurs to the Sangha. Here, what is appropriate to restore is the absence of concealing any fault. From the Mind-Only School upwards, after stating the matter to the Sangha and confessing, again, after giving the vows of a Bhikshu through the four karmas, the training of the act of expiation is given. And also, he should take upon himself the five inferior practices for as long as he lives, and be trained to abandon the five special practices. When he attains Arhatship, he will naturally abide in it, because all the causes of delusion have been exhausted and abandoned. As it is said in the Light One: Give training to the disciple who is happy to learn and does not give rise to a concealing mind. When defilements are exhausted, one should enter the previous rank as before. Therefore, training is the act of expiation, but it is not the training of vows. Therefore, for a person who does not conceal, even if the training is offered and then taken again, it is permissible for the vows of full ordination to arise, and it is similar for a novice. If a unique root downfall occurs, even if giving training becomes meaningless, there is no need to give training, because from the point of view of the basis, it does not arise, just as there is no harvest or hail in a field without land, and neither merit nor downfall is obtained. Similarly, the thirteen remaining offenses and the gross offenses, etc., should be gradually compensated for according to their severity. And also, the manner of blessing that can be remedied and cannot be remedied should be known from the ritual. In short, for what has been done before, like regretting drinking poison, like vomiting, rejecting that action, like relying on medicine, always practicing the antidote, like not drinking poison later, there is nothing that cannot be purified by the four powers of complete restoration. The training to be practiced is, from the seventeen bases mentioned in the Vinaya-vastu as the basis of the three trainings, the three base rituals. Here, the methods for purifying the essence of ethics, namely, Uposatha, Vassa, and Pravāraṇā, are mainly discussed as the three bases. The first of these is the basis of Uposatha. In the grove of Odma in Rajagriha, many lay devotees...
