There are four causes for abandoning vows: sincerely abandoning vows in the presence of someone who can understand, or even if vows are not abandoned, giving rise to a thought contrary to proper acceptance, considering it difficult to practice celibacy, and showing the cause for abandoning vows also leads to abandonment. As stated in the scriptures: "Without abandoning vows, without destroying vows." Thus it is said. Similarly, abandoning the basis, which means the sense faculties of form cease, and dying and passing away leads to abandonment; the basis deteriorates, which means two genders appear at once, or changing three times leads to abandonment; having no basis, which means giving rise to the wrong view of seeing cause and effect as non-existent leads to abandonment. The latter is extremely serious because it is said to be the cause of abandoning all vows of the Great and Small Vehicles because the root of virtue is cut off, and therefore there is no basis for holding vows. On top of the four, adding the cause of abandoning vows after the night of the observance has passed is the tradition of the Treasury, which says, "Abandoning vows, dying and passing away, the arising of two genders, cutting off the root of virtue, and passing the night." If we distinguish specifically, if one is not yet twenty years old, but thinks that one is and receives full ordination, if one knows this within that year, it is permissible to compensate by abortion, but even if one compensates, there is a flaw, and that person's discipline will be broken. The sutra says, "If one knows, it is broken. If one is born before the age, one dwells in the womb, together with the month of compensation." Also, the discipline of a nun is abandoned by promising to engage in sexual activity, as it is said, "When one promises another to engage in sexual activity, the discipline is confused." Thus it is. In terms of each school, the Red Robe school abandons vows when the Dharma of the Vinaya disappears, because there is no established boundary for the vows. The Sutra school abandons vows when fundamental transgressions are concealed, because the continuum is greatly shameless. The Kashmiri Vaibhashikas do not abandon vows even if fundamental transgressions are concealed, because it is unreasonable to abandon vows due to a single aspect being damaged. Such a person is both disciplined and immoral, like some people who have both wealth and debt. Thus they think, and their way is: "The Kashmiris consider what has arisen as both debt and wealth." Thus, the basis of all transgressions

Because the ultimate causes of thought and action are different collections. Firstly, when the vows arise, the vow substances from one to seven actually arise, and the same number of four-element sets also arise, acting as the proximate cause. The favorable conditions are the agent cause of the Khenpo and disciples, etc., and the manner of the co-arising cause of equal share, producing the actual result of the form with manifestation, like the seven abandonments, like a single Naga with seven heads, arising and remaining, so that if one is cut off, the other six remain in place, this is accepted, and in the commentary on the Pratimoksha it is also said: Just as taking one direction does not cause all to be taken, so too, abandoning one direction does not cause all to be abandoned. So it is said. According to the first view, as the sutra says: How many monks are there? There are one hundred and one close attendants. Like this, the ritual of one hundred and one actions has disappeared, and there is no way to establish the granting, so even if there is no new arising, there is no cause to abandon the previously existing vows, because the realization of the true Dharma in his continuum has not disappeared. As the brothers Asanga said: Merely because the scriptural Dharma has disappeared, the previously existing vows are not abandoned, because the realization of the true Dharma has not disappeared. However, at that time there is no new arising that did not exist before, because there is no ritual for establishing the granting. The latter meaning is criticized in the Extensive Commentary, for a monk who has become defeated, even if he has vows, they are unnecessary, because he cannot live and enjoy with those who practice similarly to Brahma, and taking vows correctly is for liberation, but he has made liberation distant, therefore, his vows are like non-existent. Following these, one enters into other meanings. However, for the initial practitioner, thoughts are not naturally abiding, and because of the torment of feelings, the mind cannot be calmed, becoming under the control of others, unable to practice, so the actual basis of the five classes is not generated as it is, if one combines degeneration and non-attachment with transgression, it is a misdeed. Because it is said so. Therefore, here it is related to the meaning of the intermediate, even if abandoning with concealment.
