After I die, will the corpse be carried out through the southern gate and buried underground? Even if buried in a desolate place, it will be eaten by crows, vultures, foxes, etc., and will those bones be burned by fire? Will they be thrown into the water? Even if buried underground, it will be ground into powder by wind, sun, and rain, scattering in all directions and rotting there. Great king, the nature of the bodies of all beings is like this, so impermanent, so unstable, so unreliable, so utterly subject to destruction, short-lived, not abiding, wavering, changing, ultimately decaying, momentary, ultimately falling, the gate of exhaustion and destruction, etc., utterly subject to destruction. Etc. One should not be attached to the pleasures of kingship, power, and enjoyment of desires. One should not be complacent with the fullness of life and health. As it is said, thinking about when one will be able to give away this body that one must inevitably abandon involuntarily in the end? And one should repeatedly train in giving from thought. If one does not train in this way, one cannot mature the intention, and one has not experienced the time when one can truly give away body and life. This is also mentioned in the Compendium of Trainings. Similarly, in the Jataka tales it says: The body that is selfless, decaying, and without essence, the body that is stainless with suffering and always impure, if it benefits others, one who does not rejoice is not wise. Etc. In the Bodhicharyavatara it says: At the same time as giving everything away, giving to sentient beings is the most supreme. Etc. These are for those who are initially getting used to it. The hand of a person bound by stinginess, from one hand to the other, the thought of giving, repeatedly transferring, for vegetables etc., destroying attachment, learning after the power increases. For those who initially have a strong bond of stinginess, there was once a stingy householder who was taught to hold a small amount of meager objects of giving in one hand and then give it to the other hand, and eventually he was able to make great offerings. Similarly, we should start with small things like vegetables, first get used to the mind of giving, and later the power of wisdom will increase more and more.

Therefore, as it is said in the *Bodhicaryāvatāra*: "Even when giving vegetables and such, the guide initially teaches giving. Having become accustomed to that, later one gradually gives even one's own flesh. When one's own body, gives rise to the thought of being like vegetables and such, at that time, what difficulty is there in giving flesh and such?" Also, it says: "There is nothing whatsoever that does not become easy through habituation." Therefore, when a Bodhisattva is in the stage of learning the path, having ascended to the very top of the stage of giving, just as when seeing a beggar from afar, one also welcomes them with one's eyes and cultivates joy. Regarding the object of giving, one thinks: 'This is the virtuous friend who perfects my perfection of giving.' Looking at it in this way, one thinks: 'This thing and I will certainly be separated; it will also abandon me, and I will also abandon it. If I give it away now, I will not be tormented by regret in the future, and without attachment, my mind will be happy.' Thus, through giving, one should train in the method of destroying greed and attachment. As the *Sūtrālaṃkāra* says: "Giving away things, the root relies on the mind, body and enjoyment are abundant, the two follow and perfect, that is also associated with non-stinginess, giving Dharma and fearless wealth, having fully understood such giving, the wise accomplish it correctly." Fearless giving is: Fearless giving protects the lives of others, liberates them from fearful places, and establishes them in a place of giving breath. Therein, the nature of fearless giving is: To give a place of great relief to those who are frightened and terrified by fear. For example, being trapped in the darkness of a king's prison, being tormented by punishment, or encountering robbers, wild animals, being tormented by hunger and thirst on dangerous roads, or being pursued by hunters of wild animals, and being afflicted by diseases and demons, and so on. In particular, in the state of samsara, there is no one who does not protect their own life, except for the hell-beings. Therefore, being their support and protector is the supreme practice of the Bodhisattvas. When our teacher became a human lord offering sacrifices, his domain was controlled by following wrong views, and a large-scale life sacrifice was performed for the sake of rain.
