Therefore, it has the distinct characteristic of applying reductio ad absurdum arguments. Thus, in this tenet system, the nature of all phenomena is unborn, and the nature of reality is free from all extremes of elaboration. From the very moment of appearance, it is accepted as unborn, unceasing, primordially peaceful, and naturally in nirvana, even refuting the mere conventional truth of acceptance. Chandrakirti said, 'As you desire other-powered entities as real, I also do not accept conventional truth.' If so, how is the characteristic of all phenomena being unborn or born established? The Blessed Mother Sutra says, 'Life-endowed Subhuti, what is it that phenomena are unborn and born, or born and born?' Subhuti said, 'Life-endowed Shariputra, I do not desire phenomena to be unborn and born, nor do I desire the born to be born.' This is refuting the tenets of others' commitments. Furthermore, if one thinks that birth and so on are established in this unceasing appearance, it is merely a characteristic imputed by the mind, and there is no acceptance of a tenet system of establishment or non-establishment. Therefore, there is no negation of mere appearance. As Aryadeva said, 'How can the nature of appearance be negated? Because it arises dependently. Here, that which causes suffering, the thought of truth, should be averted.' Thus, considering that the four cognitions are definitively established in their own nature is considered the view of the Middle Way. If one considers the emptiness of the object of definitive establishment, the freedom from extremes, to be the view of the Middle Way, then those very four extremes will become views of clinging to extremes. This is because the difference between extremes and clinging to extremes has not been distinguished. As the Sutra of the Ornament of Wisdom Light says, 'In the nature that is beyond extremes, who would view it as a lump of consciousness? There is no commitment to even a small part.' Therefore, regarding the characteristics of the lower three tenet systems, by examining and analyzing with wisdom, the objects of wisdom—unbornness, emptiness, freedom from extremes, and so on—are not merely analyzed in one aspect. Rather, from the essential point of debate, each object of clinging is refuted by reductio ad absurdum arguments, so that the upper system will not be contradicted. Furthermore, in the face of the ultimate analytical intelligence, it is not the wisdom of a conceptualizing consciousness that is the agent of acceptance, but rather the non-conceptual wisdom. That is the profound Middle Way view that speaks of no inherent existence.

From the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: 'Mind-only is non-discrimination, eliminating all external objects. When all discriminations cease, that path is the Middle Way.' It also says: 'If one analyzes the nature of the mind, its essence cannot be grasped. Therefore, they are said to be inexpressible, and their essence is said to be non-existent.' Furthermore, the Commentary says: 'Non-discrimination is the activity of the mind, and because it is separate from that, that very reality is without discrimination.' Thus, by applying the wisdom of hearing to the path of contemplation, one will realize the stainless reality, and especially, the characteristics of schools that are dependent on their own attachments will fall into decline. From that, the wisdom that knows well the characteristics of what is real, what is similar to real, and what is not real, arises from hearing and cuts off its afflictions. Where there are no afflictions, demons cannot find an opportunity. In general, even in the noble land (India), the Great Vehicle was proclaimed as not being the word of the Buddha, and similarly, great beings such as singers and practitioners who were prophesied to teach the profound emptiness by the Tathagatas were also proclaimed as proponents of false teachings. In this land of Tibet, many schools have arisen and been created through new dependent arising based on attachments with different modes of arising, and all of them are judged to be beneficial to sentient beings through the activities of the Victorious Ones in accordance with their respective intellectual capacities. However, the pervasiveness of Dharma is only the teaching of the perfectly enlightened Buddha, and there is no other way. In any case, because there are many ways of debating, many beings fall into sectarian bias and step onto the precipice of the lower realms. We do not engage in debates with all proponents of philosophical systems out of malice or bias, whether visible or invisible, but rather because we rely on the Bodhisattva's Vinaya and focus solely on practice, as it says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: 'O sons of the Buddhas, I have not seen a fault greater than a Bodhisattva generating malice towards each other.' It is because we are afraid of that. Even so, all those who correctly proclaim the wisdom of meditation are declared and suppressed as being in the style of China.
