That is how it is said. Therefore, the ultimate truth, which is free from all elaborations, is not a different entity from the conventional truth, nor can it be said to be the same. It is not merely a difference that only negates "one." Furthermore, according to some, such as the Madhyamikas who follow the Sutra school, although external objects themselves do not appear directly to consciousness, they attribute their own images to the consciousness of objects. Therefore, when an image similar to the object arises, they fully utilize the object in the manner of object cognition, believing that the grasper and the grasped exist in the conventional in different times. Others, such as the Madhyamikas who follow the Yogachara school, say that all appearances in the conventional are the entity of consciousness, and there is no external object, which is consistent with the view of the aspectarians. Some believe that just as the appearances in dreams and the falling hair when awake are neither the nature of objects nor the nature of consciousness, so too, the mountains, houses, people, and forms of matter that are said to exist in the world are empty of both external objects and the entity of consciousness. However, due to the habitual imprints of beginningless ignorance, they appear as if they exist, even though they do not. Therefore, the happiness that appears as the grasper and the grasped, which exists in the conventional, is merely mind and mental factors. There are countless such views. Although there are other views, such as the Vaibhashikas in the Hearer school, who believe that gross matter composed of aggregated atoms has its own characteristics, and that mind and mental factors do not have self-awareness, there are many similarities in that they do not acknowledge appearances as consciousness, and that they arise from previous causes. Even though the Mind-Only school acknowledges self-awareness, they only acknowledge a kind of wisdom that cannot distinguish between existence and non-existence, as stated in the commentary: "With each individual's self-aware wisdom." Now, we will explain the view of the Consequentialist Madhyamikas, who have reached the pinnacle of the Vehicle of Reason: Thus, appearance itself is the conventional, and emptiness is the ultimate. These are merely nominal designations, free from any extremes of elaboration. At the time of appearance, there is no arising, ceasing, going, or coming. Even the conventional, which is believed to be other-dependent, does not accept the extreme of its establishment. This is the tradition of the Consequentialist chariot.

Great distinction. It is a characteristic of the Dragon King Chandrakirti. Here, for all lower forms, through debate and examination, the higher ones will not be mistaken. Thus, appearance itself is conventional, and emptiness is ultimate, and so on. This is taught by the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking, showing that all phenomena are to be learned in the manner of the two truths. For those who see in a false way, for those who have not seen the truth, it is merely relying on terms and combining with clinging thoughts. The two truths are also truly shown to be one and without difference. If it is one, then just as abandoning the conventional, the ultimate will also become like that. Just as the conventional is different, the ultimate is also the same. Just as the conventional is with defilements, the ultimate will also become with defilements. If it is different, then it will not become a subject of dharma, nor will it overcome the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, and the path of meditation will not become meaningful. Therefore, for one and different, because there is the reason of self-nature, it will not become a consequentialist. This established tenet of designation refutes the commitments of others, and because it is free from all admissions of self-nature reasoning, it mainly uses the contradictory dharma of refuting the commitments of others through the door of consequence, therefore it is called consequentialist. As the glorious Nagarjuna said: If I have any commitment, then I will have that fault, because I have no commitment, therefore I am faultless. And as Aryadeva said: Existing and non-existing and both existing and non-existing, for whom there is no partisanship, for him, even a long time, it is not possible to speak of criticism. Nowadays, the distinction of not admitting one's own nature, self-nature, and self-awareness, considering the clinging to reality as afflictive obscuration, and the distinction of not distinguishing between subtle and coarse for the two selflessnesses. The distinction of considering the cessation truth as ultimate, and the shravakas and pratyekabuddhas as being pervaded by the realization of the selflessness of phenomena. The distinction of considering the consciousness of ordinary beings as mistaken consciousness, and considering the wisdom of examination as valid cognition. The distinction of considering the basis of mind-consciousness and conceptualization as the same, and the distinction of having ordinary beings who directly realize subtle impermanence. Considering the three times as real, merely realizing sixteen such as coarse impermanence, one cannot even enter the preliminary path of any of the three vehicles.
