The beings of the three realms, through practicing in conjunction with the sixteen paths of impermanence, aspire to attain Buddhahood by abandoning both ignorances. As for our teacher, from the moment he generated the mind of enlightenment until he subdued the maras at night, he remained merely in the state of an ordinary being, similar to a partial liberation. And on that single seat, he perfected the four stages of the path of application, such as warmth, and the fifteen moments of the path of seeing. Having perfected these on that same seat, at dawn, through the vajra-like samadhi of the path of meditation, he uprooted the afflicted consciousness from its source, thus aspiring to attain Buddhahood. Such attainment of Buddhahood is the very wisdom that knows the cessation and non-arising of the mind-stream. The external physical body is the truth of suffering, therefore it is not desired to become a Buddha. The feeling of pain experienced when Devadatta threw a rock and injured the Buddha's foot, etc., is not taken as a mere display, but is directly acknowledged as reality. However, from the perspective of the mind-stream, the activities of benefiting others after attaining Buddhahood are the activities of a Buddha. From the perspective of the physical body, it is considered an "Arhat with remainder." From nirvana to abiding in the realm of no remainder, it is because the functioning of matter and consciousness has ceased, so the manifestation of emanations in other realms, etc., and the concepts of the complete enjoyment body, etc., are not acknowledged, nor is the non-abiding nirvana, which is separate from the nirvana with remainder and the nirvana without remainder, acknowledged. Similarly, although only the classification of the four pairs and eight types of individuals is acknowledged, since they are individuals, they are not considered the Sangha Jewel, but rather the Dharma of learning and no-more-learning in their mind-streams is considered the Sangha Jewel. The Sautrantikas say: Whatever has the ability to perform a function is ultimately existent here, and everything else is conventionally existent. This is also explained through the definitions of self-characteristics and general characteristics. The view of the Sautrantika school is essentially in accordance with logic. Thus, from the perspective of clinging to reality, the characteristic of a person who has entered the Hinayana school, which acknowledges both external objects and self-awareness, is that of a Sautrantika. From the perspective of classification, there are two types of Sautrantikas: those who follow the sutras and those who follow reasoning. The former is

Those who speak of "rock" consider the seven chapters of the Abhisamayalankara, in order to refute them, to be the treatises of the seven Arhats such as Shariputra, and establish their tenets from this school. The latter is explained from the seven treatises on valid cognition, etc., and establishes its tenets based on the Sutra Pitaka. Because of attachment to the names of the Dharma to individuals, it explains the Dharmas in relation to metaphors, and is therefore also known as the "Exemplifier." Regarding the Dharma as the basis, which truth is established as conventional truth? It is considered that the mind is conventional merely by imputation by non-discrimination, because it obscures the seeing of the reality of its own characteristics. Thus, the object of appearance of conceptual thought is pervaded by the general characteristic, and the general characteristic and the non-existent Dharma and the conventional truth are not different, and the pervasion and the pervaded are the same. The object of appearance of direct perception is pervaded by the self-characteristic, and the self-characteristic, the existent, and the ultimate truth are considered to be the same in pervasion and the pervaded. Here, as stated in the Pramanavarttika: "Whatever has the ability to perform a function, that is real here, the rest is conventionally existent, these are said to be self and common." It is considered to be like this promise, and its nature is the same as that of the logicians. The classification of the path is the sixteen aspects of the four truths, such as impermanence. Oneself also understands the emptiness of the self-sufficient entity of the person who is nominally imputed, and the wisdom that understands the selflessness of the person alone, without being combined with skillful means, great compassion, etc., is the Hinayana's own path. Combining this wisdom with the perfect thought of benefiting sentient beings is the Mahayana's way of practice. The way of traversing the path of Hinayana and Mahayana is similar to the former, but for the obscurations to be abandoned on the path, there are only the names of the self-grasping of the person and the ignorance of the afflicted, and the non-afflicted ignorance, etc., and the names of self-grasping of phenomena and cognitive obscurations, etc., are not accepted. From the perspective of the result, merely meditating on the sixteen aspects such as impermanence, abandoning only the ignorance of the afflicted, and realizing the state of Arhat is the Bodhi of the Hinayana, and similarly, the cessation truth represented by the two Nirvanas is the Dharma Jewel, and the path truth is the Sangha Jewel.
