I am the ultimate truth, there is no third truth. So it is said. Conventional truth has two ways of appearing. In the face of illusory consciousness, however many appearances there are, those that function in accordance with the appearance are the true conventional truth, but those that appear but do not function are known as false conventional truth. In this regard, the nature of the eight aggregates of consciousness in the time of sentient beings, the illusory appearances produced by conditioned conventional truth, as well as the different appearances that arise in illusory grasping and illusory consciousness, are deceptive and false, untrue and changing, appearing in the form of illusion and suffering, and from the perspective of mental objects and concepts, being labeled, are very contradictory to the meaning. Even so, for the two aspects of appearance and consciousness at that time, it is temporarily permissible to posit them as true and false, so they are called true conventional and false conventional. Thus, being able to function in accordance with the appearance, arising from causes, and being established in accordance with the appearance, that is, the four outer elements, and the inner, including one's own consciousness, are the true conventional truth. Although it appears but cannot function, like the moon appearing in a pond, or the chariot drawn by a painter, it is considered a false conventional truth. In the two truths it is said: Although the appearances are similar, they can function, and because of the ability to function and the inability to function, the distinction between true and untrue conventional truths is also made. So it is said. These two, if spoken in words, seem to be two, but if measured from the nature, they do not appear different, because they are the same in arising in habits and illusory cognition, and they are the same in appearing in the respective sense fields. For a while, the function that appears only in the illusory cognition, if it exists in the object of observation of eye consciousness, existence is the same, and non-existence is also the same, because it is the same, so it is not established by nature. In particular, the basis for distinguishing, if only observing the Dharmadhatu, then when obtaining the wisdom of the noble ones, all the mental cognitions and appearances with true clinging in the mind are false conventional truths, and the ways of appearing and all appearances without true clinging are true conventional truths, and the basis of illusion and the illusory mental thoughts are liberated in the Dharmadhatu, therefore realizing the state of non-self-nature, as it is said in the *Lankavatara Sutra*: "Like the moon's reflection on a clear mirror, so are all dharmas without self-nature, O Lankavatara, you should know it thus."

Please do so! Thus, the ultimate truth is the way of abiding in the nature, the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, the essence of both is inseparable, from the beginning beyond thought and expression, enlightenment and non-enlightenment are not established by the mind. So, the ultimate truth is: the way of abiding in the nature, naturally peaceful, without elaboration, beyond one and many, samsara and all dharmas are inherently without essence from the beginning, therefore it is not established by the minds of ordinary people who are enlightened or not. As the Root Wisdom says: Not known from others, peaceful and without elaboration, without distinction of meaning, this is called reality. If it is not established by the mind, then the distinction between the two truths is also unreasonable, and it will be suspected that it is a causeless result. In response, Master Śāntarakṣita said in the Stages of Meditation: This insubstantial dharma, all arises from discrimination, whatever is discriminated is also empty, thus emptiness is liberation. Just as when the great sea dries up, waves will not arise, similarly, various kinds of consciousness do not arise from non-existent things. Because the measurable dharmas first arise from the discrimination of the essence of the measurer, when one realizes that the nature of what is discriminated is emptiness, then the term liberation is established, just as when there is no source of waves, the name wave will not be established either. As previously said: When one sees that meaning, at that time the yogi, dwells in samadhi, without discrimination or speech, without doubt in one's own seeing, like the dharma of space, in which there is no small amount of consciousness, likewise this dharma is only consciousness, there is not even a small amount of knowledge, arising and abiding, appear to foolish children, when viewed with wisdom, there is no arising or abiding. And so on, extensively explained. Therefore, for the nature, there is no commitment, no object of commitment, no receiver, and no object of receiving. If one merely measures with discriminating consciousness and fabricates that there is no arising or ceasing, then one cannot be liberated from the precipice of permanence and annihilation. Therefore, being separated from the ultimate truth of imputed names and all the extremes of elaboration such as arising and ceasing, liberation in the nature is called
