And. As for the profound meaning, there are four kinds of hidden meanings. In short, the difference between intention and hidden meaning is: intention is merely established in the mind, and does not depend on grasping the other party. Hidden meaning depends on grasping the other party, and is the eye of wisdom for distinguishing scriptures. Regarding the difference between intention and hidden meaning, the Commentary says: Intention is merely established in the mind, and does not admit dependence on grasping the other party. Hidden meaning depends on grasping the other party. Thus it is said. Regarding this place of intention and hidden meaning, the previous Khenpos had slightly different views. Aryadeva said: The Buddhas, for the sake of the disciples, teach the Dharma according to their inclinations. To some beings, they teach the Dharma of abandoning evil. To some beings, they teach the Dharma of not listening to cause and effect. To some beings, they teach the Dharma of distinguishing the two truths. For those with profound hidden meanings, they teach the Dharma with the essence of emptiness and compassion. Thus, for great intellectuals who are good at understanding the principle of being in harmony with the vessel of the disciples, there will be no contradiction or conflict, because they are good at understanding the occasions of language, meaning, intention, and necessity, so they can well distinguish the meaning of the scriptures, which is the second key to viewing the sutras and tantras. Now, in order to explain the classification of the sacred Dharma as a measure, from the perspective of the measure, the eighty-four thousand Dharmas spoken by the Buddhas all have their meaning in the conventional and ultimate, and there is no third truth. Depending on taming the afflictions inherent in the minds of sentient beings, the tamer, the sacred Dharma, namely the Vinaya, Sutra, and Abhidhamma, are the three pitakas; or from the perspective of realization and the three trainings; or from the perspective of definite and vast numbers, the eighty-four thousand Dharmas spoken all rely on the conventional truth of appearance and the ultimate truth of reality, so the third is negated. As it is said in the Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son: These two truths of worldly wise men, you have not heard from others, but have seen for yourself. That is the conventional truth.
