Then, regarding the methods to become very stable in holding, practicing, purifying, and increasing, they are explained in the 'Noble Maitreya Entering' Sutra, the 'King of Nagas Sea Asked' Sutra, the 'Collecting All Merits' Sutra, and the 'Akashagarbha Asked' Sutra. Here, the preliminary of the ritual is generated by the power of thought, developing familiarity with great compassion; by the power of application, accumulating merit; and by the power of the basis, taking special refuge. Among these, great compassion is the reason for becoming the root of the sacred Bodhicitta, which has been mentioned many times. As it is also said in the 'Manifest Enlightenment of Vairocana': 'The cause of omniscience is Bodhicitta, the root is great compassion.' Therefore, for each moment of thought, one should cultivate great compassion by relying on loving-kindness with equanimity towards all sentient beings, with uninterrupted mindfulness and awareness. If one does not cultivate in this way, then for those with dull faculties, beginners, and those who are not familiar with compassion, genuine Bodhicitta will not arise. If Bodhicitta cannot arise, then the connection with the profound wisdom of emptiness will also be severed. Indrabuti said: 'Towards all sentient beings, cultivate equanimity, generate pure Bodhicitta. If one dwells in a place of inequality, the wisdom that liberates from beginning, middle, and end, that will not arise.' Therefore, a beginner is one who does not have equanimity, even if great compassion arises once, because the realm of beings is very difficult to subdue and their actions are evil, they will obstruct all the teachings that should be learned, so do not live with ordinary people and do not care about the benefits of this life. Put on the armor of patience, do not speak joking words, make others happy, be content with little desire, be peaceful and gentle, suppress the eight worldly concerns, do not be attached to things, do not slander others, do not create evil conditions that cause others to fall, and go beyond a hundred yojanas from the side where there is conflict. Remembering the seven faults of samsara, etc., as stated by the Holy Nagarjuna, constantly think of the benefit of sentient beings alone, Alas! When will these beings be able to be liberated from samsara? Alas! These beings are afflicted by suffering.
