With the excellent Tala (Tibetan: ཏཱ་ལ།) as the main support for thought, subsequently entering the vast Middle Way. Generally, the arising of Bodhicitta is present in both the Great and Small Vehicles. The teachings of the Shravakas include the three paths of Arhats, Pratyekabuddhas, and Buddhas, but there are no rituals or practices for it. Here, there are two traditions of Bodhicitta in the Mahayana, the Mind-Only school and the Middle Way school. According to the former, Bodhicitta must arise based on any of the seven types of individual liberation vows. As stated in the "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment": "Those who constantly possess the seven types of individual liberation vows, who are endowed with discipline, have the potential for the Bodhisattva vows, otherwise not." This indicates that although the Middle Way and Mind-Only schools are not different in essence, they differ in view, rituals, remedies for downfalls, and all that should be learned. Therefore, it is not permissible for just anyone to practice arbitrarily, as stated in the Bodhisattva grounds, and especially it is forbidden for sinners to generate Bodhicitta. In this Middle Way tradition, the basis is not fixed, as shown in the "Flower Ornament Sutra," "Bhadrakalpa Sutra," "Akashagarbha Sutra," and other scriptures. As also stated in the "Ratnakuta Sutra": "When this Dharma discourse was taught, countless beings such as gods, nagas, asuras, garudas, and mahoragas generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment." Furthermore, Jetari said: "Sons or daughters of good family, endowed with a basis and perfect intention." Therefore, in terms of body and mind, all beings who can generate aspirational Bodhicitta can generally serve as the basis for this tradition. However, in special cases, if one cannot vow not to kill, etc., which contradicts the precepts of Bodhicitta, then Bodhicitta cannot arise. Even if such a person takes vows, it is merely preparing a vessel for downfalls, and there is no other essence. Therefore, the bodily basis can be any being from any realm. Because the Victorious Ones possess great compassion, even taking a vow not to kill for one day can generate Bodhicitta, indicating that faith and compassion, etc., are the main support for thought, being extraordinary meritorious wisdom. As stated in the "Ratna Tala Sutra": Kings and kings

Having faith in the Dharma, having faith in the unsurpassed Bodhi, having faith in the conduct of the Bodhisattvas, then the minds of those with intelligence will generate Bodhicitta. Thus it is said. The duration of abiding should also be understood as being from the basis from which it arises until the cause of deterioration has not occurred. Therefore, merely planting the seed of Buddhahood in the minds of sentient beings, it is possible to arise in all beings, whether sinful or not, and this faultless ritual of the Madhyamaka tradition should be regarded as a broad path. Although this is the case, the words of introduction and conclusion in great Indian treatises such as the Bodhicaryāvatāra, which are recited as Dharma practice, may appear to record consequential faults for beginners that are not the meaning of fundamental downfalls. Although this appears to be words used in rituals, since all the causes and conditions of the ritual are not complete, it temporarily becomes merely a vow, so there is no contradiction. If the adherence to sound becomes victorious, then no matter what scripture of the Greater or Lesser Vehicle a beginner reads, it will become a bottomless abyss containing numerous faults. Now, in order to explain the application of what is obtained from the conventional ritual: Accumulating merit is the method of especially arising, all causes are the Tathāgatagarbha, the condition is to rely greatly on a virtuous friend, a Lama like a wish-fulfilling jewel, whose mind is filled with Bodhicitta. In general, the vows of a Śrāmaṇera arise from the Preceptor and Ācārya, the vows of a Bhikṣu arise from the Sangha of faith, and the precious Bodhicitta of the Great Vehicle arises only from accumulating merit, so as mentioned before, one should enter into the endless sequence of accumulating merit. In particular, one must arrange offerings to the Three Jewels to the best of one's ability, to an extent that others cannot imagine, without any deceit. Previously, when the Bhikṣu Yogācāra Dīpaṃkara (藏文:དཱི་པཾ་ཀཱ་ར་,梵文天城体:दीपांकर,梵文罗马拟音:Dīpaṃkara,汉语字面意思:燃灯者) requested the generation of Bodhicitta in Mangyul and the Great Dharma Wheel, he was not pleased with the Tibetan offerings, saying, "The offerings are bad, Bodhicitta will not arise." After saying this twice, he left the residence, and finally, after arranging everything to the best of his ability, he said, "This is barely suitable as a basis." Therefore, the extent of giving away possessions should be to divide one's own enjoyment into three parts, one part for offering to the Three Jewels, one part for offering to the Lama, and one part for one's own livelihood.
