And, the collection of sufferings generated by it, in extremely numerous ways, in the prison of samsara, that is, in the house bound by existence, even the afflictions, at the moment of generating the mind of enlightenment, instantly obtain the title of son of the Sugatas, and are worthy objects of worship for gods and other worldly beings. As it is said in the Āryabāhuprasnā-sūtra: "One who possesses the mind of enlightenment is the great offering place for all the worlds including the gods." Thus it is praised. Then, if it is said that the mind of enlightenment arises in the first bhumi of the bodhisattva, the Joyful, how can it arise in ordinary beings who are entangled by bonds? That is in reference to those who have the Dharma as their object. And this refers to the appearance of truly taking vows, therefore it can arise even in non-aryas, this should be understood from the profound sutras. Its opposite: From the dark, thick clouds of karma and affliction, like a flash of fierce lightning, the good that flashes by, sometimes just habitual meager merit, like a water tree whose roots are weakened by fruit. Like this, the good that is not grasped by the supreme mind of enlightenment, even if it obtains the fruit of gods or humans, or sravakas, or pratyekabuddhas, will eventually exhaust its power. For example, water trees, reeds, and bamboos, when their own fruits ripen, their roots will also wither, this is obvious, like a bamboo pole. As it is said in the Udanavarga: "The mule dies from its own womb, reeds and bamboos die from fruit, water trees are destroyed by fruit." Thus it is declared. Similarly, actions such as generosity and discipline that are not grasped by skillful means will not make any difference, just like cutting bamboo with a dull axe. Meditating on the generation stage is also like a child looking at a temple. Practicing the channels, energies, and bindus and the completion stage is also like creatures that go underground seasonally. Mantras and virtuous deeds that are not grasped by skillful means are also possessed by non-Buddhists. Look at the situation of falling into the preta realm after meditating on the generation stage. In particular, even if one abides in the bodhisattva lineage, the rain of karma and afflictions will fall, and there will be strong pride, as it is said in the Prajnaparamita Sutra: Then the bodhisattva...
