For cases where the dates of visiting guests do not match, and there are many sudden events, it should be understood according to the special rituals recorded in other rituals. Second, regarding the basis of the summer retreat: When Shakyamuni Buddha was residing in Jeta Grove, the monks traveled to various places in the summer, and were ridiculed by the heretics, so the former summer retreat was established. Later, when residing in a temple on a mountain top, fear arose, and they came to Shravasti without performing the dissolution ceremony, so the latter summer retreat was established. Regarding the difference in time between these two, Sakya Master said: "From the first day of the barley ripening month, the former summer retreat is the main one. From the first day of the bathing month after that, it is known as the latter summer retreat." Regarding the duration, the Vinaya Root says: "One should vow to observe the summer retreat, for a period of three months." Regarding the necessity, the Vinaya Pitaka says: "To avoid ridicule and harm to sentient beings, to avoid harm to body and life, to treat illnesses, to reduce affairs, to increase learning, contemplation, and meditation, and to generate a firm dissolution." It is also like this. If it is the former summer retreat, then on the last day of the sixth month of the Mongolian calendar; if it is the latter summer retreat, then after performing the Posadha on the last day of the seventh month, it is appropriate to designate one or more monks to distribute the residences, by asking their willingness and making requests. The person so designated should prepare a rule stick that is one cubit long, without bending, without holes, without wormholes, with good color, and soft to the touch. Anoint it with fragrances such as sandalwood and saffron. Place a white silk cloth on the edge of the box, wrap it around, and place it next to the elder. After that, the rules to be observed include: do not waste water sources, quickly transport the necessary and used items, be diligent in virtuous roots, maintain cleanliness, do not cut on the ridges of fields, and if hail occurs, take measures to prevent it, and so on. Use these to express the willingness to stay here, and enjoy the rule stick, and the rules to be observed such as not creating disputes in the Sangha during the summer. After that, distribute the rule sticks, understand the number received, and then collect them back, etc., all these procedures should be understood according to the ritual. Actual practice: Whether it is the former or latter summer retreat, within its sixteenth day, in a room with residence and bedding, by a monk who possesses the nine qualities such as pure Bhikshu vows...

In short, whether it is early summer or late summer, one must state one's name and promise to stay for three months, and the method must be good. That is to say, apart from Pleiades and Beta Pegasi, it is not permissible to promise to stay in other places, and it is not permissible to promise less than three months. Generally speaking, if one does not promise to stay, and does not allow them to stay, then it is staying itself. Because it has been said that way, one must especially stay here where there is nowhere to go. If one vows, "I will stay here," it also counts, because it does not contradict the meaning. If, for the sake of Dharma-related matters, one must go beyond the boundary from the first day until the night of the seventh day has not ended, then before that, one must go before a Bhikshu who possesses the nine qualities, remove the number of days, and perform the blessing. Without the blessing, one must not allow the dawn to rise outside. Because it has been said that way. If dawn rises, there will be the fault of breaking the summer retreat. Even if one returns during the day, if one goes beyond the boundary unnecessarily, there will be the fault of committing the sin of entering the road, and if one exceeds the end of a long distance, it will produce a heavier fundamental sin. The blessing of the seventh day, generally speaking, cannot exceed forty days in total, and there are also those who believe that even the last six days of the summer retreat cannot be blessed, but should be directly shown. However, for matters such as reconciling the Sangha, if one tries hard to do it but it is not completed, there is no fault until then. The third, the basis of the dissolution, is: when the Teacher was staying in Shravasti, in a certain place, the Bhikshus made a rule of not speaking, and relying on the summer retreat, it was permitted to dissolve the Sangha in summer retreat through the three ways of seeing, hearing, and doubting. The definition is: as one of the three bases, it arises relying on the way of summer retreat that makes the Dharma completely pure, therefore it must be offered with the mantra of distinguishing the occasion. Among them, for the early and late summer the dissolution is performed before the full moon of the middle or second minor month of autumn, which is the boundary of holding the precepts. If there are things that have become disputes from half a month to about seven days, one must ask for forgiveness, build and decorate temples, etc., and determine the Dharma on the night of the fourteenth. On the day of the full moon, all the Sangha gather, greet each other, stand and fold their hands, in the Sangha of summer
