Perfected in consciousness, eyes, and ears, not swayed by the lasso of desire. To please the compassionate father, viewing the queen's illusion with the gaze of illusion, ruling the kingdom and accomplishing all aims, I prostrate to you! Though the ever-shifting and decaying royal power spares none from the hook's control, yet the four causes of renunciation stole your heart, revealing the self-arisen monk. With waves of diligence, unhurried by the Nairanjana River, enduring the heat of asceticism with fortitude, and with meditation holding the taming of all thoughts, I prostrate to you, who delights the Sugatas of the ten directions! In the aeons of countless three kalpas, all forms of knowledge are bound by the two accumulations with reverence, making them meaningful. Beneath the Bodhi tree, having terrified the hordes of demons, manifesting perfect enlightenment, the nature of all victors. For beings running in the bottomless abyss of samsara, ferrying them across with the boat of the three wheels of Dharma, leading them to liberation and the path of omniscience, I prostrate to you! Though pondering and analyzing, the tongues of the Tirthika teachers, drunk on the wine that is not discipline, severed the miraculous power of Dharma in places where it could be heard, completing the rites that diminished shame and glory. You, who attained the supreme of the four legs of miraculous power, though not experiencing the feelings of birth, aging, sickness, and death, yet to sadden the minds of people, showing the passing into nirvana, I prostrate to you! For beings whose merit has waned, the merchandise for increasing the white Dharma is placed in the eight parts of inexhaustible relics, as if sleeping in the realm of Dharma. May I, too, perfect the three aspects of completion, maturation, and purification, manifest enlightenment in the great Akanishta beyond the three realms, with the twelve deeds of emanation, may I be equal to you, the all-knowing one, in benefiting beings! After these and other verses, the sthavira encouraged listening to the sutra's praise. In Sanskrit: Śrīlasaṃyuktasūtra (The Auspicious Sutra Connected with Ethics). (The Sutra Perfectly Endowed with Ethics). Homage to the All-Knowing One! Thus have I heard: At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Shravasti, in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden, together with a sangha of one thousand three hundred and fifty monks.

Abiding together with great aspiration and means. At that time, the Blessed One spoke to the monks: Monks, auspiciousness diminishes, life is cut off, the activities of life are abandoned, and the teacher's doctrine will surely perish. Why do you not accomplish it with diligence and steadfast asceticism? The human body is extremely difficult to obtain. Having obtained it, and having also obtained ordination in the Victorious One's doctrine, which is obtained by it, one is deceived by things that are incompatible with the meaning of liberation and suffers! Monks, it is easy to depart from life and die, but it is not so with the decay and destruction of morality. Why is that? Because departing from life and dying will bring about the end of birth in this very life, but the decay and destruction of morality will cause one to be separated from one's lineage for hundreds of thousands of lifetimes, abandoning happiness and experiencing great downfalls. Therefore, the Teacher highly praises morality and declares: The one with morality meets the Buddha, the one with morality is the most excellent of all ornaments, the one with morality is fragrance and anointment, the one with morality is the place of all joy, morality is the cool water that dispels suffering, the one with morality is praised by all the world, and with pure morality one attains noble results. Just as even a fierce venomous snake and a great black dragon do no harm to the one with morality, what need is there to mention others? The monk with morality has light, the one with morality becomes famous and obtains happiness. Just as one cannot see forms without eyes, so too, without morality one cannot see the Dharma. Just as one cannot walk the path without feet, so too, without morality one cannot be liberated. Just as a good vase is a container for jewels, so too, morality is the basis for generating all dharmas. Just as a broken vase cannot be used as a container for jewels, so too, the destruction of morality destroys all dharmas. One who initially has no morality, does one then think to attain nirvana later? Whatever has no nose, a flat nose, and so on, for them, mirrors are not needed. Even if the ears have not heard and the eyes have not seen, the person who protects the doctrine will go to the heavens. The one who hears much, possesses hearing, and protects hearing will surely reach the heavens. How can one associate with women? How can one delight in the king's palace?
