It should be done that way. As it says in the (scriptures), the measurement is, from the tip to the end, measure with fingers, eighty-four fingers. The width is six fingers, and the height is two fingers. Using the measurements of the finger joints, the size of the four corners is two fingers. Making it good and even is very clear, like the head of a peeled end. Then, the mallet for striking is also made by cutting from the same wood. The length is twelve fingers, round, with two ends like a weasel's head. The holding measurement is also the same. That's it. (The scriptures) say that the Dharmakaya is free from the three states of birth, cessation, and abiding, so it is originally unborn and virtuous. Therefore, for better abiding, (the wooden fish) is placed on the top of the temple or above the gatehouse. The striker can be one of the five classes of monks or a lay devotee observing the sojong. First, prostrate to the Three Jewels, then pick up the mallet and strike. Although it is written as "Shangtsa," the Sanskrit pronunciation is "shadja." Add three "shads" before it. To gather the Sangha, strike three times, and at the end, strike three loud sounds. To gather for activities such as sojong and listening to the Dharma, strike once, then strike three times. Or strike three times, then strike twice. To remove a corpse, do not strike, indicating emptiness. To avert harm, there is no fixed number. That is, each time you strike, strike thirty-five or thirty-six times for each sound. Choose one of the two methods, gradually increasing the sound from the first to the eighteenth strike, and gradually decreasing the sound from the nineteenth strike to the end of the count. In this way, when the material, size, and striking circumstances of the wooden fish are all complete, it has great benefits. The Wooden Fish Sutra says: Mother Prajnaparamita abides in the form of a wooden fish. As it says in the (scriptures), whenever a king, in the country, the sound of the wooden fish is heard, there will be glory, fame, wishes, and good harvests. As it says in the (scriptures), if one hears (the sound of the wooden fish) at the four times, those people will attain Bodhi. Anyone who rejoices from the heart will be liberated without doubt. As it says in the (scriptures) about the benefits, and the faults of harming the country, disharmony among the Sangha, and the inability to restrain oneself due to incorrect material, size, and striking method, are also explained therein.

Then the Sangha gathers, remembering whether one has fallen into karmic positions? If there is doubt, then request blessings from the master. To purify the continuum, do not lie down, but sit in a squatting position. When confessing, please focus your mind on the blessings. Then the confessor should say: Venerable ones, please listen, today the Sangha is holding the fourteenth or fifteenth Posadha. I, a Bhikshu, named so-and-so, am also holding the fourteenth or fifteenth Posadha. I, a Bhikshu, named so-and-so, remember such and such a transgression within the Sangha. Or, if there is doubt, change it to: I have doubts about such and such a transgression. I confess this transgression before the venerable ones, and today I will perform the Posadha. Tomorrow morning, I will do this again according to the Dharma. Say this once. For those who have doubts, change the phrase "tomorrow morning" to: Tomorrow morning, I will ask the Bhikshus who hold the Sutras, the Bhikshus who hold the Vinaya, and the Bhikshus who hold the Matrikas, and after dispelling doubts and uncertainties, I will do this again according to the Dharma. Say this. The one who performs the action should not speak to others, but bless the assembly of minds. After that, in order to engage in prostration, recitation of Sutras, and dedication, which is for the purpose of entering the third continuum, the appropriate person, such as the disciplinarian, should encourage the recitation of Sutras with peaceful conduct, and then all the abbots and others should stand up. After the Sutras are recited, please say auspicious words. Speak of the impermanence of twinkling stars, lamps, and so on. Then, again, encourage the making of four parts of the Torma, and dedicate them in the same way. After that, encourage the making of prostrations, and make praises and prostrations. In order to make what is done here meaningful: May the supreme white lotus of Bodhicitta, from the immortal city of a hundred joys, be the vessel holding the essence of the Shakya lineage, the illusory goddess with deer-like eyes. Like the rising sun ascending the eastern mountain, in the Lumbini Grove, the pistil of the womb blossoms, adorned by the service of Brahma and Indra, I prostrate to the one who was prophesied in the Bodhi lineage. Among the youth of the Shakya clan, proud of their youth, skilled in the sixty-four arts, praised and renowned by all, the beings...
