Is the supreme benefit. It is not harm or intermediate. Therefore, the characteristic of equanimity is not to be in an intermediate state of neither benefiting nor harming, but to be equanimous without near or far to the object of accomplishing only benefit. The benefit of meditating in this way is that the mind does not scatter in the direction of attachment and aversion, the wisdom becomes workable, and ultimately the way to realize the equality of all dharmas. In the Sutra of the Ornament of Wisdom Light, it says: The characteristic of all dharmas, whatever is without an object of focus, that is equality. Thus, the four immeasurables are also cultivated in sequence by separating the objects, which is the tradition that follows the Abhidharma Pitaka, and it is extremely important for the arising of experience. If one expands by focusing on the general aspect, although it seems like a large scope, in reality, one does not generate certainty about any one of them, like opening a brocade in front of a child. Therefore, in the Samgrahani, it says: Based on sentient beings and the nature of reality, the four immeasurables with and without focus arise. Thus, for the object of focus, sentient beings, from each aspect of the object of focus, make the experience extremely stable, which becomes the cause for the arising of the two bodhicittas in the continuum, and from that excellent intention, the accumulation of merit increases greatly. The object to be meditated on afterwards is sentient beings, and the object of meditation, all those who cling to self, are seen as illusion and dreamlike. Remembering the nature of reality, which is like foam, like bubbles, like mirages, and is naturally pure, thereby perfecting the accumulation of wisdom. In the Holy Vimalakirti Sutra, it says: Non-conceptualization and non-focus are enlightenment. And so on, there is a great deal of content. Now, to show the abandonment of the opposing aspects of the four immeasurables, the four Brahma abodes: Loving-kindness with desire, compassion with stinginess, joy with pride, equanimity with ignorance, are not the path to liberation, close to the four Brahma abodes, with attachment, completely abandon. To this, without properly generating the mind, and without being seized by the mind that desires liberation, only with the appearance of a false mind, loving one's own son, relatives, friends, etc., and not caring about others, although this appears as loving-kindness, in reality.

Ignorance is the root of attachment. Similarly, not allowing one's own horses, buffaloes, cows, etc., to work due to compassion, while doing the opposite to other sentient beings, is miserliness disguised as compassion. Rejoicing in the perfection, peace, and happiness of oneself and one's own side, and practicing equanimity, etc., the opposite of this is pride or jealousy. Equanimity, which is ignorance of any undesignated beneficial or harmful state of feeling, is related to the side of ignorance. These are the cause of manifesting existence and are unrelated to the path of liberation. The Teacher, the Great Compassionate One, said in the Excellent Essence of the Heart: Shariputra, here, the four immeasurables of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity that have not arisen or followed are the four abodes of Brahma, which are accompanied by the manifestation of existence. The four immeasurables of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity that have arisen and followed are the four immeasurables because they lead to the path of nirvana. So it is said. The four abodes of Brahma, which are other than the four immeasurables not grasped by the mind of liberation, are not without temporary fruits. For example, when a woman carrying a small child crossed the Ganges River, both died because they could not bear the love for each other, and it is said that they attained the state of Brahma. Teacher Shantideva said: What is the result of a single clear thought arising? It is like Brahma and others. So it is said. Therefore, love for parents and children, etc., is attachment. Similarly, compassion, etc., tormented by other afflictions, is also as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: Possessing desire's attachment, Touches many faults. Thus, being born in the desire realm is the attachment of desire, or being born in the two upper realms is the cause of the attachment of existence. In the Treasury of Knowledge, it is said: Born from the two realms, existence, radiant attachment. As an example, the other three also do not transcend the cause of samsara, because the bodhisattva's attachment to sentient beings is the opposite of this. In this way, if even the four transcendent immeasurables are not present in the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, etc., what need is there to mention the assembly of ordinary people? The Sutra
