It is the meaning of joy based on greatness. Joy based on the taste of the sacred Dharma means joy through obtaining the taste of hearing the Dharma by oneself and others, and the taste of thinking and meditating. From the above, it is known that here, the first meaning is to be experienced. Regarding this, if one sees any sentient beings who are happy and joyful, rich and endowed with enjoyment, and free from unfavorable conditions, one should think: May this happiness, wealth, and perfection never be separated in all ways. Likewise, may all realms of sentient beings be joyful and perfect. When will I experience the joy of seeing such a state? Furthermore, may they be long-lived, healthy, generate special virtuous thoughts, turn away from sinful thoughts, temporarily obtain the happiness and fruits of gods and humans, and ultimately possess the happiness of omniscience. As the Twenty Thousand Verse Sutra says: If one sees any sentient beings who are prosperous with their own happiness, one should think: May this happiness never be separated. May they transcend the happiness of gods and humans and possess the happiness of omniscience. Therefore, especially for all those who have become objects of competition and jealousy, just like cultivating loving-kindness, one should transform one's mind and learn to generate pure and good wishes, which is the antidote to the opposing side of joy. Incidentally, one should also cultivate joy for one's own manifested roots of virtue and the wisdom gained from hearing, thinking, and meditating, and strive to find ways to generate joy in the future. And all of these should not be bound by the rope of ultimate attachment, but should be viewed as the nature of illusion. As the Samadhiraja Sutra says: Magicians conjure up various forms, such as horses, elephants, and various vehicles. But there is no real appearance in them. All dharmas should be known in the same way. Thus, for the sentient beings who are the object of joy, as well as the conditioned roots of virtue, and the three wisdoms, etc., one should also know them as the nature of illusion that appears without existence, and seal them with dedication. The benefit is: temporarily, one's own mind is free from jealousy and pain, and therefore feels at ease and peaceful.

Regarding the attainment of land, the manner of possessing ultimate great significance. From the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita: 'Having a joyful and vast mind, immeasurable, which cannot be taken away by all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, by which one attains the supreme perfection and eminence.' Thus it is said. Regarding the manner of cultivating equanimity, the essence of equanimity is to separate love and hatred. By cutting off partiality and sectarianism, spread equality. Treat enemies, relatives, and neutral beings equally in the realm of benefiting. Combine objects with and without characteristics with wisdom. This has two parts: measuring the meaning of equanimity, and equanimity focused on sentient beings. The former refers to the term of treating both equally without distinguishing between good and bad, etc. For example, regarding the eight worldly dharmas, if I obtain perfect enjoyment, I will not be happy or attached to it. If it diminishes or is not obtained, there will be no disappointment, which is the nature of things. Obtaining and not obtaining are equal equanimity. Similarly, if excessive love does not arise towards the side that reveres and serves, then towards the side that is angry and strikes, because the clinging to hatred is small, therefore pleasure and pain are equanimity. If praising my lineage, form, and qualities makes the mind arrogant, then it is natural to be intolerant towards the side that finds fault and slanders. Turning away from both is equanimity without joy or sorrow towards praise and blame. If one is happy when one's qualities are known by others, or heard by many people, or if one is depressed when one's qualities are unknown and not heard, if neither of these exists, it is equanimity without joy or sorrow towards fame and obscurity. For one's own sake, if these eight dharmas are first treated equally, then equanimity focused on sentient beings will also be easily accomplished, because eliminating partiality is the characteristic of equanimity. As it is said in the Vinaya Sutra: 'You should have a mind that is mutually equal and impartial towards all sentient beings.' Thus it is said. The aspect of focusing on sentient beings is: like this, samsara has no end, so if you think of each sentient being, there is no one who has not been an enemy and a friend, so it is not appropriate to have attachment and hatred towards them. The partiality of enemies and friends is the cause and condition of interdependent origination in this life, or holding oneself as an enemy.
