Now, giving unsuitable food and drink to those with children, and to those who are heretics seeking quarrels and who have no respect for religion, but who regard it as wealth and ask for scriptures, and giving the images and meanings of scriptures that are disguised as Dharma to others, and giving land to hunters, and giving rivers to fishermen, and giving opposing things to enemies, and giving the three robes of a renunciate Bodhisattva that are not extra, etc., these are not allowed. For these, do not say in harsh words, "I will not give this to you," but skillfully use hints, and if it is a person with understanding, say this: "Do not misunderstand that I am attached to this beautiful appearance and do not give it to you. Like this, virtuous practitioners, for Dharma robes and so on, after observing the Khenpo and Acharya, dedicate them and hold them. The implements of Bodhisattvas are dedicated to the Buddhas and Buddha-sons, and after they have been offered, they are held as if entrusted to me, so taking and giving others' things without permission is a great fault for both of us." After making him understand this, from the aspect of things and other objects, give without changing his mind. In general, our implements are also dedicated from the depths of our hearts and held in the manner of being entrusted, which will accumulate great merit. Also, those who are suitable for giving, just as I have dedicated and given to the Buddhas and Buddha-sons, I think there is nothing that they have not given to sentient beings, so you can give with this thought, which is distinguished by the difference between allowing and prohibiting thoughts. Like this, if it is not because of knowing the necessity, but one's own mind is overwhelmed by stinginess, then relying on the words of the Dharma will turn into deceiving others with falsehood, so to this, as asked by the strong one: "I am still small in strength and my roots of virtue have not yet matured, I am a beginner in the Mahayana, controlled by the mind of not giving up, close to the view of acceptance, and abiding in the attachment to self and what belongs to self, so please forgive me, noble one, and do not be sad. I will do as your and all sentient beings' thoughts are fulfilled." Saying this three times to the beggar, if the other person does not believe, and the failure of not giving Dharma wealth because of stinginess.

It is beneficial to others. As it is said in the Condensed Perfection of Wisdom: Even if a beggar comes into view, if one is too weak to give, how can one soften their heart with gentle words without letting them down? If a beggar comes near in the future, how can one avoid discouraging them? One should completely eliminate the faults of stinginess and strive diligently to abandon craving completely. So it is said. In this context, stinginess and craving are obstacles to giving. One should think: Because I have not been accustomed to giving in the past, I am still stingy now. Because of this, I will not enjoy giving in the future and will become poor. There is no doubt about it. Therefore, one should not let it control oneself in any way. If one's wealth is small, it is because one has not benefited others in other lifetimes. Now, because of poverty, even firewood is difficult to obtain. However, the cause of becoming wealthy in the future is only giving. Therefore, one should not turn away beggars. If one is attached to the object of giving, thinking that it has never been held by me in any way, then I will regard this object with a reversed perception, unable to separate from it, which is the cause of suffering. Therefore, one should cut off the mind of attachment. If one does not see the benefit of the arising of enlightenment as the result of giving, but instead develops a mind that looks forward to the benefit of the arising of enjoyment, alas! All conditioned phenomena are of the nature of destruction and separation. Therefore, obtaining the result of giving once is like a merchant gaining profit, but it is not merit, like experiencing happiness in a dream. Therefore, one should transform its result into the cause of supreme enlightenment. In general, inexhaustible enjoyment does not exist at all times until one attains the first ground. Therefore, a wise Bodhisattva, with a very pure intention, can also transform vast objects of giving with his mind and generate faith in giving to all sentient beings. As stated in the Bodhisattva Grounds: Thus, a Bodhisattva does not have those enjoyments until he attains a pure intention. However, even without them, he practices giving with wisdom. A Bodhisattva with a pure, superior intention is one who, by whatever means, can attain true liberation from the lower realms, and thus has inexhaustible enjoyment in all lifetimes.
