Etc. of generosity, as well as various worldly skills such as craftsmanship, all of which are faultless and beneficial to the Dharma and sentient beings, should be taught. Even stories and legends, as well as talks that incline people towards the Dharma, and even a little discussion about good and evil and the law of karma, can be of great benefit to others in this degenerate age of the Dharma. Therefore, liberating oneself and benefiting others with the Dharma is the main purpose of generosity. Because material things can only temporarily relieve suffering, and have no other use. Therefore, one should teach the common treasure of the Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Vidyadharas according to the capacity of the disciples, which is the middle generosity. That is, the discipline of guarding with intention, believing in the Dharma of omniscience, enduring the scolding of others, the diligence of desiring progress, not mixing with the Lesser Vehicle, dedicating the merit of the mind to perfect enlightenment, the meditation of knowing the emptiness of Dharma-nature, and the wisdom of practicing the six perfections, as explained in the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses. For those of superior capacity, they should be guided into the inconceivable Dharma like the sky, which can be clearly explained by the directly quoted scriptures. In addition, lay Bodhisattvas mainly practice material generosity and fearlessness, while renunciates should practice Dharma generosity, as stated in the Bodhisattva Pratimoksha Sutra: Shariputra, if a lay Bodhisattva fills Buddha lands as numerous as the sands of the Ganges with seven treasures, and offers them to the Tathagatas, Arhats, and Samyaksambuddhas, compared to this, Shariputra, if a renunciate Bodhisattva speaks a four-line verse, they will accumulate more merit. Shariputra, the Tathagata does not allow renunciates to practice material generosity. The meaning is that material things are mostly easily obtained from lay people, therefore, if renunciates have defects in their discipline, and practice generosity with the wealth they have sought and accumulated, there will be the fault of attachment.

It is to prevent not thinking about the object at all. Otherwise, if one naturally obtains by the power of past giving, it would prevent the benefit of giving, and giving is not spoken of. Just as the Protector Nagarjuna provided sustenance for many monks, and the Teacher Hero, by the power of past merit, obtained vast alms every day, thereby benefiting all the monks. For the great-wisdom Bodhisattvas in the householder's aspect, there is also no prohibition against giving the Dharma. In the house of the Licchavi known as Immaculate, there are eight wonderful things, the six perfections, and extensive and profound discussions on the irreversible wheel of Dharma. Therefore, all these perfections of giving should possess six superiorities, as stated in the Compendium of Perfections. Relying on the arising of the mind of enlightenment is the superior basis, not abandoning the intention regardless of whether giving is applied to general or specific differences is the superior object, giving for the immediate happiness and long-term benefit of all sentient beings is the superior purpose, being seized by non-discriminating wisdom is the superior skillful means, being seized by the superior dedication of dedicating the merit of giving to complete enlightenment, and being seized by the superior extreme purity that prevents both afflictive and cognitive obscurations. For non-superior intentions, one should cleanse them. For example, the wrong view that giving has no result, and the idea that harm also becomes Dharma, thereby harming the lives of beings, etc., and giving with things that exhaust other beings with burdens in the back and forth of distant directions by deceivingly disturbing directions, with mental transactions, etc., is the same as the heretical doctrine of those who claim harm is Dharma. Furthermore, giving combined with auspiciousness and goodness, giving with an arrogant attitude, giving for the sake of competing with others, giving contemptuously in front of beggars, giving with the arrogant attitude of thinking that oneself is generous and others are not, and thinking that merely completing giving will transform into non-attachment to the world and beyond, etc., in short, are impure.
