Giving that is created without having heard of it, and relinquishing attachment to possessions, considering them as inferior places that are not suitable, is regarded as the measure of giving. As it is said, in the Sutra Requested by the Great Ascetic, it says: "Whoever has wealth, that is the benefactor. Causing others to give is the giver, but not the benefactor. Giving poison, weapons, and killing living beings, and giving alcohol to the unrestrained, is impure. Doubting the ripening of karma, and being tormented by regret after giving, is also impure. If one thinks that the ripening of merit should be enjoyed by oneself and not transferred to others, that is also impure. At the time of sickness and death, rejoicing in the Buddha, and giving without faith, having servants do it, is also impure. Abandoning the poor and giving to the rich is also impure. The ripening of those great ascetics is like planting seeds in a field with salty soil; although it is not that there is no ripening, it will not turn into fruit. Great ascetic, it is like planting seeds in an unplowed and unweeded field, and even if it rains, it may grow, but it will not turn into flowers and fruit." Thus, it was taught. Therefore, in general, the measure of the perfection of giving is not to seek the end of eliminating the poverty of others with the object of giving. Rather, from the aspect of the mind, it is desired to relinquish attachment, looking at stinginess and miserliness, to one's own body, enjoyment, and all roots of virtue. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "All possessions, together with their fruits, are said to be the perfection of giving, with the mind of giving to all beings. Therefore, the mind is the very thing." If it is not like that, who could eliminate all the poverty that sentient beings experience according to their own karma? Because even though the Buddhas of the past practiced the perfection of giving, there are still countless beings, such as pretas, who are in impoverished bodies. As it was said before: "If eliminating the poverty of beings is the perfection of giving, then since there are still impoverished beings, how can the protectors have reached the other shore?" Thus, it is said. In general, although one cannot actually give one's body and life, etc., becoming accustomed to giving up in one's mind is like a seed that produces fruit, because from familiarizing oneself with the object.

And there, it is like the old woman of Magadha who meditated as a tiger and blocked the road. Therefore, considering that the power of intelligence will manifest in this life or in future lives, in the Compendium of Trainings, regarding the food, clothing, and shelter given to sentient beings from the depths of one's heart, one should forget the thought that "this belongs to others, it should be used for their benefit," and if one enjoys it out of attachment to one's own benefit, it is a downfall with afflictions; even if there is no attachment, but if one does not realize this and enjoys it with attachment for the sake of others, it is a downfall without afflictions; if one dedicates it to others and also considers it to be the property of others, but uses it for oneself, it becomes taking what is not given, and if the value is complete, it becomes a defeat for those who hold the vows of individual liberation. It is said in this way. Even so, in the noble land of India, there have been some who revile this treatise and refute it, but the great scholar Kṛṣṇa said: The teacher is one who has attained accomplishment, and the words of the one who sees the truth do not need necessity, etc., and one should not doubt, because the teacher is one who has attained the accomplishment of blessings, so those necessities, etc., are merely excuses for fools. If one thinks that the words of those who see the truth do not need necessity, one cannot measure its value, as Chandrakirti said: "Little learning and full of pride, Speaking much without foundation, Unable to comprehend accordingly, Is a person called Chandana." Therefore, those who do not have faith in the Bodhisattva, who have not separated from the net of doubt, and who want to understand without respecting the teacher's instructions, should understand this. As it is said, the words of those who see the truth have great necessity, therefore, do not obstruct the virtuous intention by thinking that the object of complete value cannot be obtained by all sentient beings, so it will not fail; or thinking that those things are not owned by them, so we will not fail; or thinking that there is no need to actually own it and give it away with thought. In that it says: For the Bodhisattva who acts in this way, some people do not understand this, and should not disbelieve, because they should fully understand how great the mind of giving is. This reason
