Action is not dwelling in samsara with the wisdom that realizes suchness, and not dwelling in nirvana with the means connected to great compassion. The state of non-abiding nirvana is to be accomplished through the two accumulations that are the outer expression of the truths of conventional and ultimate reality, or through the door of means and wisdom. As stated in the "Inconceivable Secret Sutra": "The accumulation of wisdom will abandon all defilements. The accumulation of merit will bring all sentient beings to near and comfortable living." Therefore, Bhagavan, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva should strive for the accumulation of merit and wisdom. So it is. Furthermore, in this way, through means such as generosity, holding the abundant fruits of great enjoyment such as the form body, pure lands, and retinues, the Tathagatas do not abide even in complete nirvana. With perfectly pure wisdom, having completely abandoned the root of samsara, which is the inverted view, they do not abide in samsara either, and the path is free from imputation and denial. As it is also stated in the "Noble Sutra of the Perfect Collection of Dharma": "The Tathagata is born of means and wisdom; it should also be known that dependence on others is possible." Therefore, in all the profound stages of mantra meditation, first, taking refuge, generating the mind of enlightenment, prostrations, the seven-branch prayer, mandala offerings, the hundred-syllable mantra, guru and deity yoga, and so on, are shown to be accomplished with numbers based on hundreds of thousands. That is the aspect of means. All of that is practiced while being grasped by the wisdom that does not conceptualize the three spheres, and thus it is the union of means and wisdom. As it is said in the "Noble Sutra of Generating the Power of Faith": "What is skill in means? It is skill in the wisdom that gathers all dharmas. What is wisdom? It is skill in knowing that all dharmas are without distinction." So it is. Mandala offerings, offerings, water torma, and so on are generosity. Practicing acceptance and rejection without error in accordance with the entrance of one's own vehicle is discipline. Enduring hardship in virtuous practice is patience. Encouraging oneself day and night with virtuous practice

Diligence is effort. Holding the mind on a direct target is meditation. These are wisdom when grasped by the view of the three spheres being empty. Within its scope, accumulating virtuous dharmas through the seven-branch offering and so on, and being grasped by bodhicitta and dedication, the ethics of benefiting sentient beings are also complete. Among the four means of gathering, gathering through generosity is easy, and pleasing speech is ethics. Encouraging others to virtue through words of patience and diligence, benefiting is benefiting others through instructions. Acting in accordance with the meaning is primarily oneself abandoning the practice of taming those to be tamed. This is the way of those who renounce. This is especially important because one cannot tame others if one has not tamed oneself. In the "Ten Dharmas Sutra," it says: If one strives to settle all sentient beings in taming and peace, then not being tamed, not being peaceful, and not being guarded is not one's own part, so one should be peaceful, tamed, and guarded. Some ignorant people who are not guided by virtuous friends, secretly considering themselves to be beginners, but with extremely sharp faculties, focus on the meaning of the non-conceptual sutras, and abandon the part of skillful means. This is not a fault of the Dharma, but a fault of the person. In the "Collected Determinations," it says: To those foolish people, they say that Bodhisattvas should only study the Perfection of Wisdom, and they denigrate the remaining perfections. Maitreya, what do you think? Now, as the king of Kashi, was it a corruption of wisdom that he gave his own flesh to the hawk for the sake of the pigeon? Maitreya replied: Bhagavan, it is not so. The Bhagavan said: Maitreya, when I practiced the conduct of a Bodhisattva, accumulating virtuous roots corresponding to the six perfections, would those virtuous roots cause harm? Maitreya replied: It is not so. The Bhagavan said: Maitreya, you have perfectly cultivated the Perfection of Generosity for sixty kalpas, and cultivated the Perfection of Ethics for sixty kalpas, and so on, those foolish people say this: Only one.
