How can one know the extent of the merit of generating it? Also, in the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra, it says: "One who has a specific focus, who has done roots of virtue for as many kalpas as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, is less than another who generates the mind of enlightenment for one day, half a day, or a single snap of the fingers. The merit is greater." Therefore, even if one does not have the practice of bodhicitta, the greatest fruit in samsara is the teaching of the Blessed One in the Liberation of Maitreya. For example, even if a vajra jewel is formed, a golden ornament is more excellent and subdues all others. The connection with this example has already been mentioned before. After careful examination, the ritual of merely generating the mind of enlightenment is shown to be beneficial to limitless sentient beings. If someone openly opposes it, it can be considered the work of a demon. Similarly, in the Tenth Dharma Sutra, the four causes for generating the mind of enlightenment are mentioned. The first is to be urged and discouraged by the Hearers of the Tathagata and then induced to take it up. The second is to take it up after hearing the praise of the mind of enlightenment. The third is to generate it with a compassionate thought after seeing sentient beings without protectors, refuge, or friends. The fourth is to generate it with joy after seeing the complete form of the Tathagata. Among these, it is said that generating the mind for the sake of benefiting sentient beings, having been subdued by great compassion, is particularly great. This was taught in the Samadhi of the Wisdom Mudra of the Blessed One. Similarly, the benefits of entering are that the Buddha's body, wisdom, qualities, and activities are all accomplished solely through benefiting others. This can be known from the cause of the previous Buddhas receiving predictions of complete enlightenment. As the noble Nagarjuna said: "The perfection of benefiting others is considered the chief of fruits. Pleasing the Buddhas and so on are other than that. It is thought that these occur incidentally." Thus it is said. From "The Jewel Treasury of Qualities, the Rain of Joy," the explanation of the chapter on fully taking up the mind of enlightenment, that is, the eighth chapter, is completed. Commentary on the Ninth Chapter. Pages 160 to 200.
