Thus. Day and night, I should always think of this alone. Thus, it is shown that the means of liberation from suffering is none other than confessing sins, etc. How to confess? It is through the ritual of the four opponent powers, as mentioned earlier: With palms joined, with a mind of suffering and fear, prostrate again and again, and confess again and again. I beseech the guides to regard my sins as transgressions. Thus, with fear and shame towards the performance of non-virtuous deeds, placing oneself in a state of great regret is the power of aversion. Even though afflictions may slightly exceed due to the power of afflictions, and even if a state of involuntariness occurs, afterwards, one should practice virtuous deeds a hundredfold more than before, which is the power of universal application of the antidote. As it says: This is not good, I will not do it at all in the future, I will not do it again and again. Thus, with deep regret for the non-virtuous deeds done before, taking vows again and never committing sins is the power of restraint. Taking refuge in the Three Jewels and relying on the precious Bodhicitta to exhaust and diminish sins is the power of reliance. As the Sutra of the Four Dharmas says: Maitreya, if a Bodhisattva possesses four dharmas, all the sins committed and accumulated will be overcome. What are the four? They are: the power of aversion, the power of universal application, the power of restraint, and the power of reliance. Among them, the first is that when one engages in non-virtuous deeds, one has great regret for that deed. The second is that even though one has done non-virtuous deeds, one is extremely diligent in virtuous deeds. The third is that one has taken pure vows and obtained the vows not to commit sins. The fourth is that one takes refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and does not abandon the Bodhicitta. Thus. How to confess? Visualize countless Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the sky in front, and remembering the meaning of refuge and the four powers, recite the Sutra of the Three Aggregates, and from the Samantabhadra's Prayer of Good Conduct: By the power of desire, hatred, and ignorance, etc., or the verses spoken in the Bodhicaryavatara.

Confessing with words like, "Those who dwell in all directions." If one confesses in this way, sins, being compounded, will not remain together. As stated in the Sutra Requested by Maitreya, the Great Lion's Roar: "Whatever sinful deeds I have done out of ignorance, I confess. After the wise confess their faults, they will not remain together with their actions." Moreover, the supreme act of purification is to meditate on the view of emptiness. As stated in the Sutra of the Buddha's Treasury: "Even killing one's parents and a solitary realizer can be liberated by meditating on emptiness." Fourth, the limb of rejoicing: Without any disturbance to oneself through any action, with the distinction of a single thought, others' purity, the conduct of a bandit who steals virtue in an instant, is done solely through rejoicing. Therein, one rejoices with joy and delight for any sentient beings who are liberated from the suffering of the lower realms and experience happiness. And when others accumulate the accumulations of merit and wisdom, the cause of higher realms and definite goodness, even without the slightest disturbance of body and mind, one rejoices from the perspective of thought. And one rejoices with joy for all the qualities of the complete, mature, and purified qualities of the complete Buddhas, and for the ocean of merit of the bodhisattvas who generate the mind of enlightenment through the door of aspiration and engagement. The benefit of this is that I have not stolen the root of others' virtue. As stated in Dandin's Ornament of Words, the way to obtain merit that can be compared: In the past, when King Prasenajit of Kosala continuously served the Tathagata and his retinue day and night, a poor man wandering in the streets meditated on rejoicing in this. In the evening, when it was time for dedication, the teacher said: "Great King, should I dedicate the special merit of today in the name of you, the king, or in the name of those who have obtained merit other than you?" The king replied: "If there is anyone with greater merit than me, then dedicate it in their name." The teacher then dedicated it in the name of the poor man. Thus, it is said in the Compendium: "The three thousand worlds, Mount Meru, can be measured if weighed on a scale, but the merit of rejoicing is like that."
