After relying on the supreme Guru, who is like a wish-fulfilling jewel, and whose mind is filled with Bodhicitta, generally, the vows of a Śrāmaṇera arise from the Abbot and Acarya, the vows of a Bhikṣu arise from the Sangha with faith, and the precious Bodhicitta of the Mahāyāna arises solely from accumulating merit. As just mentioned, one enters the endless sequence of accumulating merit. In particular, one must exert all effort to arrange offerings to the Three Jewels in a way that others cannot comprehend, without any deceit. Previously, when the Bhikṣu Yogācāra Dīpaṃkara was requesting the generation of Bodhicitta in Mangyul and the Great Dharma Wheel, he was not pleased with the Tibetan offerings, saying, "The offerings are bad, Bodhicitta will not arise." After saying this twice, he left the residence. Finally, after shaking everything out, he said, "This is just barely suitable as a basis." Therefore, the extent of giving away possessions is to divide one's own enjoyment into three parts: one-third for the Three Jewels, one-third for the Guru, and one-third to be owned as the condition for one's own livelihood. The uncommon cause for the arising of Bodhicitta is that the realm of sentient beings is the pervader of the Tathāgatagarbha. Therefore, like a sprout arising from a seed, through rituals or symbolic means, one generates conventional Bodhicitta. Ultimately, the ultimate, true Bodhicitta is attained through the power of meditating on its characteristics, as stated in the Sutra of the Moon Lamp: "The Tathāgatagarbha pervades all beings. The mind is vast and supremely generated. All these beings will become Buddhas." From that very cause, one also possesses the signs of a flourishing lineage, with the strength of the element being free from impurities. As stated in the Sutra of the Prophecy of the Noble Truthful Speaker: "Therefore, because of liking the vast, there is no liking for the inferior. He possesses great compassion by nature, therefore he possesses white qualities. He has abandoned sinful friends, therefore he is embraced by virtuous spiritual friends. Because he acts as he speaks, he is not deceptive. Because he pleases the Buddhas who wander in the world, he is joyful. Because body and speech are pure, and the actions of the mind are without fault, he has abandoned sin. Because the superior intention is without fault, he is steadfast in the Yidam. Because he is not attached to taste, he is in a state of giving away everything.

Is virtuous. Is free from the blessings of demons. Accumulates roots of virtue, and practices well. Because it is the object of great compassion, it is loving to all sentient beings. Generously gives away possessions, so has little attachment to everything. Thus it is. Also, like a consciousness that has fallen asleep, the precious mind that is dormant must be awakened by relying on signs, and the cause of this awakening also depends on the virtuous friend. Just as one easily obtains the desired meaning from a wish-fulfilling jewel. A virtuous friend who is skilled in the meaning of the Great Vehicle and possesses vows should be obtained from one who is perfect in the power of unsurpassed Bodhicitta. The Twentieth Verse on Vows says: The lama abides in vows and is skilled. It should be taken from one who has power. And Pal Yeshe Drakpa said: The vows should also be taken from a lama who abides in the vows, is skilled, and has power. If there is none, then one should visualize the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in front and take them. Thus, for the first object of taking, in general, the sound of vows alone applies to both the Lesser and Great Vehicles, but in terms of form, the two differ in method and intention, so that the virtue of one may be reversed to the sin of the other. Therefore, here, the difference in the qualities of the Bodhisattva vows themselves is mainly emphasized. If one finds a noble person who has awakened the lineage of the Great Vehicle and whose mind stream is filled with the precious mind of Bodhicitta, then one should take it only from him, because it is the nature of things that the fruit is accomplished by the cause, so the teacher Hero also said: By first relying on a virtuous friend, all inner and outer dharmas are the teacher. Thus it is. If one does not find it in this way, then those who have the power of self-reliance need not rely on a teacher or a famous sinner. In the meaning of the Sutra on the Qualities of the Pure Land of Manjushri, it is stated in the Lamp for the Path: If a lama is not found, then the vows of others should be taken from him. The ritual should be explained correctly. There, in the past, Manjushri, transformed into Amra Raja, how to generate Bodhicitta, as stated in the Sutra on the Ornament of the Buddha Land of Manjushri, so here it should be written clearly. After recording the history,
