Obstructing, it vanishes in a mere instant of thought. The Blessed One taught: Likewise, whoever generates the mind of enlightenment, having faith in the profoundly deep and vast meaning, being skilled in the meaning of the Great Vehicle, constantly striving for the sake of protecting all sentient beings, generating the mind of enlightenment, as well as love, compassion, the six perfections, the four reliances, and the objects of gathering. Furthermore, to establish this well, the Tathagata walking with miraculous power is a Bodhisattva. Regarding this, walking like an ox or an elephant cart is an unstable ordinary being. Walking like the sun and moon is a stable ordinary being. Walking like the miraculous power of a Hearer is from the first to the seventh ground. The Tathagata walking with miraculous power is included in the Vipaka ground and is taught to practice the six perfections. To establish its rationality: Just as a seed falls into the earth, generating the supreme mind, the non-principal becomes the principal. Thus it is taught that merely generating the mind of enlightenment is just planting the seed of supreme enlightenment in the continuum of ordinary beings. In order to prevent it from degenerating and to increase its cultivation, the path of the Lesser Vehicle is a great obstacle. Therefore, the path of Hearers and Solitary Realizers only serves to counteract specific afflictions, just as different medicines each eliminate different diseases. The mind of enlightenment is like the nectar of the gods, just as it completely eradicates all diseases, it counteracts all afflictions and is the unerring cause for attaining Buddhahood. Therefore, for Bodhisattvas who are weak in heart and unskilled in means, turning away from the path of the Lesser Vehicle, those who are skilled in the profoundly deep and vast meaning of the Great Vehicle, just as the merchant chief killed the black man with a short spear out of great compassion, thereby completing the accumulation of forty thousand eons, and the Brahmin boy who loved the stars, facing danger due to craving the merchant's daughter, abandoning celibacy out of the motivation of great compassion in order to save his life, thereby completing the accumulation of twenty thousand eons, there is no need to accumulate as many as three countless eons. Thus it is said

As taught in the sutras renowned as "Without Stain": Mother is the Perfection of Wisdom, Father is skillful means, All protectors are born from them. Delight in Dharma is the wife, Loving-kindness and compassion are the daughters, Dharma and the Two Truths are its sons, The meaning of emptiness is the mind's abode. Likewise, all afflictions are disciples who wield power as they please. A good friend is the limb of enlightenment, The mind transforms into the supreme lineage of enlightenment. The companions who always accompany it are the Six Perfections. Clairvoyance is its mount, The Great Vehicle is unsurpassed. The helmsman is the Bodhicitta, The path is the Eightfold Noble Path. Thus, it is shown that the vessel-body of a Bodhisattva is complete in every way. Now, to briefly explain the distinctions of the power from which it arises: From the three powers, Bodhicitta arises: Great compassion, accumulating merit, and taking refuge. Thinking and acting are said to be the power of the cause. Therefore, one should first be skilled in the cause of arising, and then be extremely steadfast in holding, practicing, purifying, and increasing it. This principle is taught in the Sutra of the Entrance of Noble Maitreya, the Sutra Requested by the Naga King Ocean, the Sutra of Gathering All Merits, and the Sutra Requested by Akashagarbha. Here, the preliminary to the ritual is the power of thought, developing familiarity with great compassion; the power of action is accumulating merit; and the power of the cause is arising from taking special refuge. In this regard, great compassion is the principle that transforms into the root of Bodhicitta, which has been repeatedly mentioned. As it is also said in the Ornament of Clear Realization: "The cause of omniscience is Bodhicitta, and the root is great compassion." Therefore, in each moment of the mind, one should cultivate familiarity with great compassion based on constant mindfulness and awareness, relying on loving-kindness that is equal towards all sentient beings. If one does not cultivate in this way, then dull-witted beginners who are not familiar with compassion will not generate genuine Bodhicitta. If Bodhicitta is not generated, then the connection with the profound wisdom of emptiness will also be severed. Indrabhuti said: "Towards all beings, one should generate a true mind of equality. Wherever inequality exists,
