Therefore, if one does not strive to learn and practice simply because one is a descendant of a Bodhisattva, one will degenerate. In the "Stages of Meditation" by Pal Yeshe Drakpa, it says: "First, the correct way to supplicate the Protector; second, entering into generosity and so forth, thoroughly proclaiming the manner of entering." and so on. Also, in the commentary on Gewai Lha, it says: "The mind of enlightenment is the aspiration towards enlightenment, that is, 'Having become a Buddha, I will benefit all sentient beings,' to be approached with faith, this is wisdom. Through actions, one can also attain profound and vast meaning, this aspiration itself is the mind aspiring towards enlightenment. Entering into it by properly taking up the conduct of enlightenment, and so forth, is indeed entering into enlightenment. Thus, there are two aspects." and so on. In the self-commentary of Shri Vibhuticandra, it also says: "In brief, there are two: aspiration and engagement. Like the seeds of annual crops, it is the unique cause of supreme enlightenment. Its training is twofold: the discipline of restraint is turning away from all misdeeds; the discipline of engagement is familiarizing oneself with the six perfections." Therefore, it is not enough to merely take vows; engaging in practice is its essence. Therefore, those who are unable to do so should generate a vast aspiration. In the "Advice to the King Sutra," it says: "Great King, you are busy with affairs and have much to do. If you cannot train in all of all, in every way of all the perfections of giving, up to the perfection of wisdom, then in this way, Great King, let your desire, faith, pursuit, and aspiration for complete enlightenment, whether walking, standing, sitting, lying down, awake, eating, or drinking, be constantly and unceasingly remembered, kept in mind, and meditated upon. Gather together all the roots of virtue of the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, all ordinary beings, and myself, past, future, and present, and rejoice in them with the supreme rejoicing. Having rejoiced, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, etc..."
