Na. The display of the pacification of elaboration. Thus it is. Such dependent arising, in the ultimate sense, is separate from the three characteristics of arising, ceasing, and abiding. It is to be understood from the fact that it does not reside in the consciousness of the Mind-Only school. In the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, it says: "Without a place, there is no object of focus." Thus, for the Mind-Only school, the place is the six, such as the eye; the object of focus is the objects such as forms; the root is the alaya consciousness and habitual tendencies; the abiding is the individual consciousnesses. Although these four abide in mutual dependence as mere dependent arising, the sutra says: "All dharmas are without alaya." Also, in the Sutra of the King of Dharma, it says: "Son of noble family, if you wish to be liberated, cut off the branch of desire, do not think with two minds, think with one mind, and abandon the mind of existence and non-existence. The nature of the mind is emptiness; the nature of the mind has no going, no coming, no taking, and no abandoning. The name of this which has nothing is enlightenment." Thus, both the consciousness that apprehends external objects and the consciousness that grasps internal objects are not able to withstand scrutiny. On the nature of dharmata, which is empty of its own nature, all elaborations of acceptance are naturally pacified. This is the wisdom at the limit of thought, beyond the mind, and separate from speech, thought, and expression. Nagarjuna says in his Precious Garland of the Middle Way: "The entity that is promised does not exist even as a particle, because it is primordially unborn, like the son of a barren woman. For example, if you ask a barren woman, 'Who is your son?' Because she does not have one, she is not able to speak." Secondly, the dependent arising of samsara is: The appearing objects, earth, water, fire, wind, space, mountains, forests, and layered houses, all arise from aggregated causes. Samsara is dependent arising. Thus, in the profound sutras such as the Lankavatara Sutra, the statement of the Mind-Only view of the alaya consciousness initially leads to the great meaning of refuting the tenets of the tirthikas. Afterwards, those scholars who are skilled in the profound meaning of the scriptures should abandon the view that the alaya consciousness exists. Here, for the time being, the dependent arising of samsara is the alaya that grasps the appearing objects at the time of the non-conceptual consciousness in a state of distraction.
