As it is said (in the scriptures), in the mirror, one and the other appear, completely free from (duality), although they appear, they do not exist. Therefore, in all the major and minor treatises of both Prasangika and Svatantrika, with "no truth," "no self-nature," "not like that," etc., in all situations where the ultimate truth is examined, relying on emptiness, which is the non-existence of phenomena as a common appearance, how the establishment is regarded as the Middle Way. The Root Wisdom says: "Whatever is dependently originated, that is said to be emptiness, it is also a nominal designation, and it is also the meaning of the Middle Way." The way to cut off the proliferation of such a path is: purity and impurity are temporary, actually non-existent, but appear as if they do not exist. It is grasped by complete imputation, and through thinking and observation, four extremes arise: existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, and it is not wise to dwell in the middle. To this, the Prasangika Madhyamikas, such as Dharmakirti who follow reason, do not accept the Alaya consciousness, but in the Bodhicitta Explanation it says: "Thus the Alaya consciousness, not true as true, when it goes and moves." On the Alaya consciousness, which is merely established on consciousness, the six consciousnesses arise, and the illusion of external appearance, which is non-existent in essence but suddenly appears, is defiled by ignorance, and the mind with complete imputation falls into the four extremes of existence and non-existence, and merely seeing the extremes also exists in the Brahma's doctrine: "There is no truth in things, there is no non-existence in non-true things, seeing the extremes of those two, that is seeing myself." Therefore, it is not to negate the conventional truth and establish falsehood, nor to negate the proliferation of the ultimate truth and establish non-proliferation, but to directly negate the things that are clung to, but in a way that does not establish anything by implication, completely liberating from the views of clinging to extremes, and not dwelling in the middle, this is the non-inverted view of the Prasangika Madhyamikas. The Samadhiraja Sutra says: "Those with discrimination establish existence and non-existence, such observation cannot pacify suffering, existence and non-existence are both extremes, purity and impurity are also extremes, the wise do not dwell in the middle and there is nothing."

If such a state of affairs is not realized, merely eliminating the extremes of permanence and annihilation based on different foundations is also present in worldly views. As stated in the *Sutra of the Wheel of Non-Regression*: "'Exists' is one extreme; 'does not exist' is the second. This is the same as self and no-self, the same as permanence and annihilation." This teaches the manner of eliminating faults. Therefore, like a silkworm, one is bound by one's own attachment to tenets. Here, the phenomena imputed by the mind are neither arising nor ceasing, neither abiding nor going and coming, neither one nor different, neither permanent nor annihilated. Knowing that the nature of all elaborations being completely pacified is the essence of wisdom born of contemplation. In this way, although one should enter the meaning of selflessness after establishing the meaning of existence, non-existence, permanence, annihilation, etc., through tenets, it is not good for some ancient people to think that way because the tenet itself, which does not abide in any extreme or middle ground in terms of the nature of what is measured and what measures, exists in the realm of self-sound, conceptualization, and attachment. Just as a silkworm has no other binding agent but is bound by its own saliva, as stated in the *Lankavatara Sutra*: "Clinging to the sound of auspicious things, like a silkworm, a child unskilled in connection is bound by his own inferior tenets." Therefore, the nature of all phenomena abides in dependent arising, which is the state of non-arising, so it is established in the nature of non-cessation. From the perspective of entering the two truths, since the former is the basis of the latter, it does not cease because it is unborn. This meaning explains that all phenomena from the beginning do not arise in nirvana, are without self-nature, without place, without things, and without consciousness, as established by Lord Maitreya. This is also the way in which they exist in mutual dependence only from the perspective of dependent arising. Thus, the two of arising and ceasing, the two of permanence and annihilation, the two of going and coming, are six non-existences. Different and the same, that is, the two that are not both, are two, from which the elaboration of these eight extremes is pacified. As stated in the *Root Wisdom*: "Whatever arises dependently, has no cessation and no arising, no annihilation and no permanence, no coming and no going, neither different nor one."
