Those that explain as provisional, and those that explain the ownerless as having an owner, are called provisional meanings. Those sutras that explain emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, non-fabrication, unbornness, non-existence, thinglessness, selflessness, sentient beinglessness, lifelesness, personlessness, ownerlessness, and even the absence of the door of liberation, are called definitive meanings. Therefore, one should rely on the sutras of definitive meaning, and not rely on the sutras of provisional meaning. Thus it is said. Further subdivided, the manner of measuring with a system possessing the four reliances. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, these are the inexhaustible four reliances of the Bodhisattvas. What are the four? They are as follows: Rely on the meaning and not on the words, rely on wisdom and not on consciousness, rely on the sutras of definitive meaning and not on the sutras of provisional meaning, rely on the Dharma nature and not on the person. Thus it is said. Among these, "words" refers to worldly dharmas, and "meaning" refers to that which transcends worldly dharmas. "Consciousness" refers to that which closely approaches and abides in form, feeling, perception, and formation. "Wisdom" refers to the complete understanding of the aggregate of consciousness abiding in the four aggregates. Provisional meaning is taught for the purpose of entering the path. Definitive meaning is taught for the purpose of entering the fruit. "Dharma nature" refers to immutability and so forth. "Person" refers to abiding in viewing the person as real, and its distinctions are inconceivable, which is explained by the sixth chapter of that sutra. In short, those that mainly explain the reality of the nature are called sutras of definitive meaning. In order to enter that nature, all those that guide the minds of sentient beings with various methods, and explain the impurity of delusion and its subtle distinctions, are called provisional meaning teachings. This is regarded as the mirror for viewing the scriptures and the primary key for opening them. Furthermore, in order to clarify those natures, in order to realize the intention of the meaning, intention

The second explanation, firstly, the intention is: There are also slightly embellished statements, temporarily speaking truthfully for the sake of those to be tamed, not just for oneself, but for a necessary purpose, in short, showing four kinds of intentions. Like this, by dividing into chapters to clarify the nature of the treatise. The first aspect, the meaning of what is to be explained is not completely fulfilled as it is, so there are still some intentions left, for the benefit of others, not transforming according to the literal meaning, how does it have four kinds of intentions? In the Ornament of the Sutras, it says: Equality and different meanings, similarly also different times, and the intention of beings, one should know there are four kinds of intentions. In order to explain its relevance, the intention of equality is also shown as one. The intention of different meanings, if analyzed, then it is shown as not established. The intention of different times, shows effortlessly attaining Buddhahood. The intention of the beings' intention, disparages the supreme clinging to that. Among them, the intention of equality is, because not seeing the truth, so in the appearance of those who can see this shore, samsara and nirvana, good and bad, the characteristics of what should be taken and what should be abandoned exist very contradictorily, however, the reality of all dharmas, in the state of naturally pure nature, is equal without one or other. As it says in the Noble One Hundred and Fifty Verses: All are the nature of space, but space also has no nature, by combining the nature of space, all are perfected into the most supreme equality. Like that. The intention of different meanings is that the nature of the completely imputed is without self-nature, it is not established in the ultimate truth, and the arising of the dependent is without self-nature, because arising from the four possibilities is not established. Like this, arising from oneself is not established, because the one who arises and arising are momentary, they are contradictory. Arising from others is also not established, because if analyzing the nature of other and self, then it is not established. Arising from both is also not established because of contradiction. If there is no cause, then the result of arising will cease. However, merely arising and so on that is in accordance with the appearance, is just like a dream or illusion, appearing from dependent origination. As it says in the Manjushri Illusion Net Sutra: Manjushri, dreams are appearing but not real. Similarly, all dharmas are appearing but not real. And so on, it is widely proclaimed. The completely established nature is without the nature of ultimate truth, because one's own nature exists in the ultimate truth, so there is no nature of elaboration such as impurity. Its
