If one enters into such a state of mind, if one enters into such a nature, then at that time, one should relax effort and learn to become accustomed to the equanimity of śamatha and vipaśyanā in equal measure. If one exerts effort on it, the mind will become distracted and agitated. Furthermore, if the radiance of knowledge diminishes and one falls into dullness, one should recognize that there is no vipaśyanā, like a blind person, or like someone with closed eyes. In order to eliminate the fault of entering into a darkened mind, and the lack of the radiance of discriminating wisdom, one should awaken from dullness by seeking it out, and thereby reveal the radiance that opens up the meaning of knowledge through the correct wisdom of the non-discriminating nature of jñāna. When someone considers sharp discrimination and analysis to be vipaśyanā, and the mind becomes distracted and agitated like a monkey, if one mistakes that for discriminating wisdom, it will contradict the emptiness and selflessness of all dharmas. Why? Because wisdom is a particularity of things, and if things are not established, then wisdom itself will not be established, just as if a tree is not established, then the exclusion of shava and so on is also the same. Paṇḍita Prajñā-mokṣa also stated this in the commentary on the Madhyamaka. If that is the case, in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, it says: 'Thus, in those images that are the objects of samādhi, that which is the discrimination of the meaning of knowledge, and the thorough discrimination, and the complete understanding and complete analysis, and the forbearance, and the desire, and the discrimination of differences, and the view, and the discrimination, that is called vipaśyanā. Thus, a Bodhisattva is skilled in vipaśyanā.' If one thinks that this contradicts what is said in the sutra, then these are not referring to the single vipaśyanā that, at the time of meditative equipoise, sees the essence of wisdom, in which all dharmas are non-dual, like the center of the sky. When the distinction of knowledge enters the object of knowledge, one discriminates by knowing as much knowledge as there is, and when one is completely purified in one's own nature, knowledge does not enter the object, and one knows as it is, one thoroughly discriminates, and possessing the wisdom of hearing and thinking, one attends to the words of the twelve branches of scripture and so on, and one observes with the thought of meaning, which is the so-called complete understanding and complete analysis, in Jambudvipa.

Moreover, the one with garlands (of flowers) also explains it this way: the difference between thinking and analysis is merely that the former is coarse and the latter is subtle. Because they both focus on moments and many parts, the wisdom mixed with the eight consciousnesses is conditioned, conventional truth, and possesses its own continuum. As it is also said in the "Manjushri Manifestation Sutra": "Signs in meditation and the flow of wisdom are also the work of demons." Also, "Son of the gods, as much as there is of investigation, as much as there is of examination, as much as there is of complete calculation, as much as there is of seeing, as much as there is of hearing, as much as there is of differentiation, as much as there are places of discernment, that much is the work of demons." Therefore, these are the ways in which one initially makes calm abiding and special insight the path for the wisdom of listening and thinking, as it says in the Noble "Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra": "Lord, how does one completely seek calm abiding, and who is skilled in superior seeing?" The Buddha said: "The teachings I have established are like this: such as the sutra collection, the collection of verses, the collection of prophecies, the collection of stanzas, the collection of self-utterances, the collection of narratives, the collection of parables, the collection of 'thus-gone' sayings, the collection of birth stories, the collection of extensive teachings, the collection of wonderful dharmas, and the collection of teachings on definitive statements—whatever is explained to the bodhisattvas, the bodhisattvas should listen well, hold well, recite fluently, attend to them properly, and understand them well through seeing. Then, dwelling alone in a secluded place, properly attending to them, they should remember in their minds those dharmas that have been properly thought about, and they should remember with the mind that remembers, continuously remembering inwardly. Thus, having entered and remained there many times, physical pliancy and mental pliancy will arise, which is called calm abiding. Therefore, the bodhisattva seeks calm abiding in this way. Having obtained physical pliancy and mental pliancy, they remain in that state, abandoning mental distraction, internally, in the realm of samadhi, they separately remember and believe in those dharmas that have been properly thought about as images. In this way, in the realm of samadhi,
