Thus it is said. This also depends on one's own past karma, or on other causes and conditions. If one engages in virtuous deeds, one will experience various difficulties caused by worries or actions. At that time, one must have the ability to transform the various conceptualizations of suffering, or the lack of patience towards difficulties, into the path through courage. As it is said in the Ornament of Trees Sutra: "Daughter, in order to destroy all your afflictions, you should generate a resolution that is difficult to endure." Thus it is said. If one enters the Mahayana path but becomes narrow-minded and does not possess steadfast courage, even a small difficulty will become a cause for turning away from the path. Those who possess great courage, because they turn away from cowardly behavior, even suffering and great asceticism become companions on the path. For example, when a brave and steadfast man enters the battlefield and sees his own blood flowing, it becomes a cause for generating even greater courage. But those who are cowardly, with minds that waver like cottonwood petals, even if they see the blood of others, they will be startled and faint. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "Some, seeing their own blood, become even more courageous; others, seeing the blood of others, become frightened and faint. This is due to the difference between a steadfast and a cowardly mind." Thus it is said. Therefore, dwelling place, worldly dharmas, conduct, completely upholding the Dharma, living by begging, being exhausted by diligence, benefiting sentient beings, and relying on temporary actions, these eight are the categories of patience in accepting suffering. Similarly, for the patience of definitely thinking about the Dharma, there are the initial object, what is to be manifested, the object of desire, what to accept and reject, the object of meditation, following, faith, and the object of knowledge, in general, eight in a group, as explained in the Bodhisattva-bhumi, should also be practiced through the liberation of the Bodhisattva Sadāprarudita. Secondly, if one does not endure harm, then anger itself will cause great suffering to oneself, as it is said, anger is the pain of
