Now it is like an avalanche not occurring. Therefore, anger or disputes, etc., are mutually dependent. In particular, if one has not previously created the cause of harm in a previous life or in the present, others cannot produce the result of harm. Therefore, in general, relying on oneself prevents harm from others, and in particular, one should know that one becomes the object of harm due to one's own past actions. As it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: 'In the past, I have harmed sentient beings in this way, therefore, it is reasonable that others harm me now.' Like this, seeing that the responsibility for harm lies with oneself, one should not be angry at all the opposition, scolding, punishment, fault-finding, beating, seizing of wealth and power, and infliction of harm on body and life by others and other beings. Because it is the basis for the arising of all the qualities of the great and small vehicles, one must train in patience. As it says in the Gangpo Requested Sutra: 'I will surely experience the ripening of past sins and suffering. Remembering the four truths and abandoning what is wrong, the path of power, qualities, enlightenment, and its limbs, all have patience as their basis. What wise person would not cultivate patience?' In particular, in order to show how patience is accomplished from the cause of harm, upon examination, great harm is not without great benefit. Relying on it, one can obtain the ship of patience and the wish-fulfilling jewel of bodhichitta. Such harm should be revered like offering the holy Dharma. If there is no harm, patience will not arise. Therefore, the Bengali Pandit always associated with an acharya who was prone to anger, saying, 'This is the support for my patience.' Therefore, when our teacher, the righteous one, became a speaker of patience, the king quarreled and wandered in the forest with his consort. The consort's attendants saw the righteous one, developed faith, and listened to the Dharma, so the king became angry and cut off the righteous one's limbs. The righteous one said, 'By the truth that I have no fault, may the blood turn to milk and the limbs be restored as before.' And so it was, the blood turned to milk and the limbs were restored as before. The king then begged for forgiveness and made offerings. The righteous one said again, 'Because you cut off my limbs,'

When I attain Buddhahood, may your three poisons be severed by the sword of my wisdom. Like these, the fruits of the two accumulations, attaining Buddhahood under the Bodhi tree, becoming the great guide who liberates beings. Repaying harm with benefit is like offering harm as an offering to the sacred Dharma, as stated in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: Therefore, if one relies on extreme anger, then patience can arise, that itself is the cause of patience, therefore, like the sacred Dharma, it should be offered. In particular, if one's own good wishes come first, then other wrongdoings, etc., as causes of suffering, can also cause aversion to samsara and the arising of great compassion, therefore, one must also practice the asceticism of patience. Master Śāntarakṣita said: Furthermore, the qualities of suffering, can eliminate pride with aversion, compassion arises for those in samsara, fear of sin and joy in virtue. Therefore, Bodhisattvas should prevent the opposing factors of the three patiences, namely hatred, and the laziness of thinking that one cannot practice, and disbelief in the path of patience and the arising of a mind of abandonment, etc., and in particular, one should be extremely fearful of the faults of anger, as stated in the Jātaka: The fire of anger makes the face withered, even if adorned with ornaments, it does not appear beautiful, even if lying on a beautiful bed, the mind is tormented by the thorns of anger, forgetting the meaning of benefiting oneself, driven by anger, one goes to evil paths, declining from fame and the accomplishment of meaning. And as stated in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: All the generosity accumulated in thousands of kalpas, as well as offerings to the Sugatas, etc., all virtuous deeds are destroyed by one anger. Therefore, although a person possessed by a demon harms benefiting oneself, one should not be angry with him, as stated in the Catuhśataka: To one possessed by a ghost, the doctor does not get angry, thus the Buddha sees, afflictions are not sentient beings. As it is said, not being angry with beings, generating Bodhicitta with a mind free from afflictions, not turning away from the work of benefiting others because of disgust with the wrongdoings of beings.
