The direct perception of the eye is the direct realization of all subtle and coarse forms of kalpas and non-kalpas. The direct perception of the exhaustion of outflows is the direct knowledge of the means of abandoning the two obscurations and the liberation of abandonment. These are obtained by relying on the four concentrations in the manner of mutually accomplishing cause and effect, as also stated in the Compendium of Abhidharma: Whether it be an outsider, a Hearer, or a Bodhisattva, they can achieve the immeasurable by relying on the four concentrations. Likewise, the five direct perceptions are also the same. Thus it is said. The ten powers are: Although one desires to live until the end of the kalpa, one is able to abide, thus having power over life; having obtained power over countless doors of samadhi, thus having power over mind; having mastered the inexhaustible nature of the treasury of space, thus having power over resources; being able to show the fruits of actions from the places of crafts and arts, thus having power over actions; being able to be born in any place one desires, thus having power over birth; being able to show all realms of the world filled with the bodies of Buddhas, thus having power over aspirations; being able to emanate great Bodhi manifestations, thus having power over vows; being able to show various kinds of miraculous transformations to various disciples at once, thus having power over miraculous powers; knowing all knowable things without beginning, thus having power over wisdom; being skilled in all the words and meanings of the Dharma, thus having power over Dharma. These ten powers are the characteristics of the Bodhisattvas of the three pure lands, as stated in the Sutra Cloud of Dharma and others. The doors of Dharani are of various kinds, and their nature is, as the noble Manjushri said: What is called Dharani is not losing mindfulness, not being distracted by thoughts, wisdom not being dull, manifesting wisdom, knowing the words of all Dharmas to be extremely different, and so on, extensively explained. The ten powers are, as Chandrakirti said: The power of knowing what is possible and impossible, likewise knowing the ripening of actions, understanding various inclinations, the power of knowing various realms, likewise superior and non-superior faculties, knowing and going everywhere, meditative states, liberations, concentrations, the power of knowing attainments and so on, past

Furthermore, the power of knowing what is possible and impossible, as well as the wisdom of death, transference, and rebirth, and the power of knowing the exhaustion of all defilements—these are the ten powers. After this brief explanation, the distinctions of their nature are: Whatever result is certain to arise from any cause, those wise ones who know this say that is its place. Contrary to what is said, the knowable that is not a place is infinite; the power that has abandoned the obstruction of knowing is said to be strength. The meaning explained by these and other statements is: Whatever cause leads to the practice of virtue, non-virtue, or a mixture of both, and produces results of happiness, suffering, or neutrality, is unfailing in that way—that is the place. Whatever is contrary to that is the power of knowing without obstruction in what is not the place. Likewise, with regard to desire, non-desire, and what is contrary to both, as well as exhausted phenomena—that is, actions that are without outflows and their maturation, encompassing all phenomena of the three times—the power of knowing all of this. And the various afflictions such as attachment, and other than that, middling intentions, and especially superior desires, etc., seeing as they are the intentions of ordinary beings and noble assemblies of the three times, just as they are, is the power of knowing various intentions. And the five physical faculties such as the eye, and their consciousnesses—that is, the five non-physical ones; the five that desire the connection of those as object and subject with each other; the sixteen emptinesses of self-nature, etc.—these are the detailed distinctions of the divisions of realms. Knowing all that exists as knowable in the three times simultaneously is the power of knowing various realms. And the twenty-two faculties such as the eye, together with their results, and seeing without omission all the gradations of faculties divided by their distinctions of sharp, medium, and dull, is the power of knowing superior and non-superior faculties. And all the aspects of beings, both correct and inverted, such as the six realms and the paths of hearers, solitary realizers, and Buddhas, in all actions, is the power of knowing the path of action. And in the limitless realms of the three times, the four concentrations, the eight liberations, the nine progressive abidings in meditative equipoise, etc., all the distinctions of defilement and purification.
