Now, the state of being unbound. From the "One Hundred and Fifty Praises": "All these beings Are bound by undifferentiated afflictions. You, in order to liberate beings from afflictions, Have long bound yourself with compassion." Thus, the wisdom of knowing, the loving compassion, and the activity of benefiting beings are constantly connected to the realms of sentient beings, and therefore never deceive. Measuring from the aspect of vast qualities, the noble Manjushri, who has unlocked the great treasure of fearlessness in the nature of speech, and who has obtained mastery over wisdom, awareness, mindfulness, and retention, no one other than the Tathagata can cut off the continuum of fearlessness. Even someone like the virtuous Bodhisattva Vimalakirti, if he were to begin to describe all the qualities of a single pore of the Tathagata, it would be like a fledgling bird, arrogant with its newly grown wings, attempting to measure the edge of the sky, only to exhaust itself and return to its starting point. Therefore, in the "Sutra of the Meeting of Father and Son," it is said: "The path of birds may be able to measure the sky, The ocean may be able to be measured with a vase, But the qualities of the Buddha cannot be fully understood." Again: "In this wheel of samsara, again and again, Those who are stained with the accumulation of evil deeds, Seeing what other refuge, such as a wheel-turning king or a powerful lord, is deceived? With fear, faith, and compassion, With the mind of benefiting others, the wisdom of a great being, They take refuge by remembering the Three Jewels. As for us, we are burdened with countless sins, surrounded by darkness, as if surrounded by all external harms, the nature of samsara is affliction, and the great mire of countless faults, repeatedly sinking into it, falling into hell, hungry ghosts, animals, asuras, and poverty, misery, fear of life, and so on, we must necessarily experience vast and deep evil deeds, possessing great faults. Wheel-turning kings, the father of the world Brahma, and the great powerful lord, etc.

Oh, and also, the groups of fierce yakshas themselves are also wandering in samsara, not having seen the ultimate truth, wandering on the terrifying cliffs, merely giving a mixture of benefit and harm temporarily, they are unable to protect and are of a deceptive nature, therefore there is only one worthy of refuge, there is no second, as it is said in the sutras: Apart from the two-legged venerable one, there is no other refuge in the world. Why is that? Because the Buddha himself has attained the state of fearlessness, so taking refuge in him is like a vine relying on a tree, and he is skilled in the methods of taming those to be tamed, so the purpose of whoever takes refuge is accomplished, and his compassion has no partiality, and he is pleased only by offerings of faith and practice, and does not pursue worldly gains. Because of this, the Dharma he teaches, and the Sangha who enter his teachings and study the noble path, are also worthy of refuge. How does one take refuge? Ordinary people fear the suffering of the lower realms and desire the merits of glory and so on. The Hearers and Solitary Realizers, on top of that, also fear the nature of existence, the cycle of birth, old age, sickness and death, and thus generate three kinds of faith. The Mahayanist, because his own mind is controlled by great compassion, abandons his own benefit, in order to save all sentient beings from samsara. Therefore, unlike the first two, aiming solely at the benefit of others, with the mind of a great person, with a mind that has become strong with certainty in the qualities of the Three Jewels, taking refuge with single-minded, heartfelt devotion. Regarding this, temporarily, in terms of a common object of focus, it is the Buddha, but in terms of a special object of focus, as it is said in the Vajra Garland: The stainless mind becomes the Buddha, the Dharma is truly spoken in speech, the body is called the Sangha, it is the place of the Bodhisattva assembly. Thus, the nature of the collection of the Three Jewels, the Lama himself is the main dweller, surrounded by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas like dense clouds, with no coming from anywhere, no going to anywhere, not a permanent thing, but the nature of faith
