Crows with sharpened beaks peck, dragging everywhere, intestines, stomach, and chest scatter and extend. Some fall from the steep cliffs of the mountains. The Death Lord holds in his hand something like the noose of death, the venomous snake raises its head, tightly binding from the base. Alive, crows, vultures, eagles, relentlessly pluck out the eyes that are there. The cause and effect of these are also mentioned in the verses of close mindfulness: Those beings who, rejoice in harming each other, kill on the battlefield. Those sinful ones, with suffering, are born as sentient beings of swords. If we summarize these meanings: Adulterers are on the silk-cotton tree, tortured by iron women. If harm is done to those who are at ease, in the forest of swords, the body is cut, eaten by dogs, vultures, and owls. Those who steal the wealth of others are boiled in large copper vessels, burned by flaming iron hammers. Those who delight in hunting, are eaten by iron dogs for millions of years. Those who kill fish go to endless rivers, and are also tormented in molten copper. If one disputes against the Dharma and acts according to one's own desires, one is tormented by wheels in a place of weeping. Those who harm all forms, are beaten with mountains and hammers. Those who destroy the seat of Dharma and speak non-Dharma, walk on a path filled with razors. Killing lice with fingernails, their body, grows large and repeatedly strikes against the rock gate. Those who take good vows but do not keep them, are burned in a blazing fire. Those who enjoy the five wrong livelihoods, are eaten by worms in the swamp of corpses. If one harms the creatures dwelling in grains, they are pounded in a mortar. Those who are angry, fierce, deceitful, and love to lie, harm others and are born as rakshasas of the Death Lord. Next, the cold hells are described, showing the common suffering, and explaining their individual nature. First: Bound by ropes of blizzards and shivering, unable to move even while alive, the weapons of wind pierce the depths of the bones, the cold touch torments like squeezing between teeth. Thus, the cold hells are great snow mountains where even a place to put one's heel on the ground is not visible, the depths of unbearable canyons. A place completely bound by blizzards where snow and wind clash, thick with darkness. Incomparable cold winds

Because the sharp hail penetrates deep into the bone marrow, the body becomes curled up, losing the ability to move. However, consciousness still remains in the feeling of suffering, not departing from the state of being alive. The distinctions between each are: those with blisters and those with burst blisters, those who utter "Achu" laments and "Huhu" sounds and whose teeth chatter, like an Utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,utpala, meaning: blue lotus) whose skin splits into six petals, like a lotus and a great lotus, wounds that split into eight petals and sixteen petals and even countless cracks, being pecked at by sharp-beaked creatures. As it is said, those with blisters are because of extreme cold, the body is filled with blisters; similarly, the blisters burst and become wounds; after becoming wounds, they continuously utter "Achu" laments; "Huhu" is just emitting a long sigh, the voice hoarse; even unable to make a sound, the teeth chatter; creatures born from these wounds peck with weapon-like beaks, like an Utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,utpala, meaning: blue lotus) whose skin splits into six petals, like a lotus whose skin splits into eight petals, like a great lotus multiplying, splitting into three times and even countless cracks, from which pus, fat, and bone marrow flow. In a letter to a student, it says: The unparalleled cold wind seeps into the bone marrow, the body curls up trembling, bent over. A hundred blisters appear, creatures born from the bursting, peck with sword-like things, flowing with fat, pus, and bone marrow. Teeth clench, hair and down are scattered. Eyes, ears, and armpits are damaged, suffering torment. Between body and mind completely confused, dwelling in the cold hell, uttering extremely painful cries. In the Indian commentary it says: Those with blisters are "Lataga," meaning three-quarters of a foot. Those with burst blisters are "Dowawa," meaning one-half of a foot. Those with chattering teeth are "Kotaga," meaning one-quarter of a verse. Although it is not said so, the three situations such as splitting like an Utpala (藏文,梵文天城体,utpala, meaning: blue lotus) indicate that they are caused by creatures pecking with their beaks. Between body and mind completely confused, the unpleasant sigh of "Huhu" arises, and when crying out, the sound of "Achu" is emitted, from which it can be understood.
