JLAZ001 0020.Commentary on Chapter Four..g2.0f

English

Emaho! If these roaring waves cannot be stopped, even a body superior to the gods, as fragile as a water bubble, will wander in the desolate wilderness. Having said this, the nature of each suffering is sequentially explained from the higher realms as follows: The unindicated karma of formless samadhi, when exhausted, will create actions in the next life; the karma of the previous dhyana of the form realm being exhausted, falling to a lower realm experiences the suffering of change. Thus it is said, although the two upper realms do not have gross sufferings such as the suffering of suffering, the happiness of the formless state, obtained from the exhaustion and awakening from the samadhi of quiescence, at the time of death and transference, one also feels weary due to the creation of suffering in the next life; the gods of the form realm such as Brahma, with great fruits, at the time of death, the happiness obtained from dhyana also changes, because they experience the suffering of entering the next life, therefore the Lord of the Nagas said: All the spontaneously accomplished dhyanas such as Brahma, although light and color, splendor are infinite, yet because they have not seen the latent self-imagination, will they undoubtedly be born in hell after death? Thus it is said, from the aspect of merit and splendor, it is incomparable, because one has not realized the realm of latent conceptualization and non-arising, therefore one still follows the traces of karma. Again it is said: Brahma and the king of gods, the wheel-turning king, etc., also due to the white ripening of the new sun in the clouds, once the opportunity is missed, they decay like wax oil consumed by the flame of a lamp. Thus it is said, Brahma himself of the form realm, although he has obtained the joy of detachment that suppresses the desire for desire, at other times, because he has accumulated non-virtuous karma, he will become firewood for the Avici hell due to the karmic pull of experiencing change in other times, therefore the Friendly Letter says: Brahma himself, having obtained the joy of detachment, again becomes firewood for the flames of Avici hell, one should constantly rely on uninterrupted suffering. Thus it is said. Similarly, from the desire realm, for all that is relied upon, the greatest and most complete in wealth and enjoyment is Kauśika (藏文,梵文天城体,kauśika,梵文罗马拟音,kauśika,汉语字面意思: कौशिक), and the wheel-turning king adorned in front with the seven jewels, the precious wheel not made by craftsmen following behind, the assembly of armies, and so on.

Accompanied by the fourth dhyana, beings in the four great continents temporarily enjoy the happiness of seeking the fruition of white karma. However, merely by indulging in it, all the previous virtuous deeds are exhausted like melted butter consumed by the flame of a candle, and they eventually fall into a state of extreme distress. As stated in the "Letter to a Friend": Having become worthy of offerings as Indra, due to the power of karma, one falls back to the earth. Having become a universal monarch, one also becomes a servant in samsara. Similarly, the lord of the gods, in order to reveal the faults of attachment to land and power, treads on the soft ground of a beautiful city, causing it to sink four fingers low; when lifting the foot, the ground springs back up four fingers high. Power refers to the light of jewels such as cat's-eye stones in the headdresses of the Four Great Kings, the gods of the Thirty-Three, the nagas, and non-humans, which illuminates Indra's feet, even dyeing the lotus beneath his feet red. Such an arrogant being will eventually obtain the situation of walking on burning iron thorn trees in hell. As stated in the "Admonition to a Friend": Treading down and springing up, with a pleasant touch, even having long resided on the summit of Mount Meru, one will eventually wander around with thighs and limbs burned in a heap of burning gravel. It is also said: Indra, whose lotus beneath his feet is reddened by the light of the headdresses of gods, nagas, and non-humans, will also fall into evil paths due to the wind of karma. Who among the wise would not be afraid of this? Furthermore, in order to reveal the faults of desire and the sins of attachment to trees and palaces, (the text says:) clinging to the fresh breasts of heavenly maidens, indulging in joyful gardens, abandoning the beautiful pearl nets in immeasurable palaces, one will eventually fall headfirst into a pit of fire. Just like that, the heavenly maidens in the slowly flowing lakes, with the illusion of desire...

Those who are proficient in the sixty-four arts experience the pleasure of touching the breasts of those women. In the joyful gardens, they enjoy the four kinds of pleasures that arise from the wish-fulfilling trees: food and drink, clothing, ornaments, and various musical instruments. In the magnificent palaces adorned with pearl nets and half-nets, where the sound of bells rings sweetly, they involuntarily abandon the pride of that perfect bliss and fall into pits of fire, forests of swords, countless rivers, and helpless, dense darkness. As it was said before: The daughters of the gods play together with those who enjoy temporary pleasures in the gently flowing streams. Afterward, they are wounded by countless raging rivers and must endure unbearable suffering. In the heavenly gardens, where the leaves of the wish-fulfilling trees are spread everywhere, even when dwelling comfortably with the daughters of the gods, countless sharp weapons will fall, piercing their bodies, and they must traverse forests where the leaves are like swords. Having entered magnificent palaces adorned with beautiful bells and shimmering strings of pearls, and having traveled through the heavenly realms, they will fall into immeasurable, unbearable, helpless darkness, sinking completely into the endless depths. Thus it is said. Now, in general, I will explain the suffering of death and downfall, which is the fault of clinging to life, extending up to the realm of Others' Wielding. The goddesses whose clothes, cushions, and flowers are withered, wiping their faces with sweat, feigning tears, and weeping as they look at their relatives—such suffering of death is unbearable for humans. Thus, the gods do not have the ability to feel pain, so they do not have physical suffering. However, upon seeing the five omens of death, their minds are extremely distressed. As it is said: Then, a son of the gods cries out with a voice of compassion, lamenting, "Alas, the slow-flowing stream! Alas, the pond!" Thus it is said. The five signs are: loss of former glory and perfection, ugliness of the body, dislike of one's seat, withering of flower garlands, staining of clothes, and sweating of the body. At that time, the gods will abandon them, their wives will sleep with others, and their consciousness will be confused. The next life
